I'm the culprit who commissioned Grant to paint this bust, and I'm delighted at how it is turning out. Can't wait to see it in the flesh.
I had previously commissioned the Young Roman Legionary bust, and the pictures on this site simply don't do it justice. Its a lovely subtle piece of work.
Previously, I bought Grant's Thracian gladiator bust and MMM's Napoleon, which were advertised for sale here on "markets and commissions", and they are beauties, especially the gladiator, with excellent skintones and armour finish.
For work of this quality, Grant's prices are very reasonable, especially when one considers the (IMHO exorbitant) costs quoted by some more high profile painters. Also, there's a fast turnaround and in progress picis.
For those of us with a grey army that we will never live to finish ourselves (I estimate I have to get to 300 to paint mine), its a great opportunity to get quality stuff in the display cabinet while our eyes still work.
Highly recommended.
