Robert,

Sounds like you guys had some great father/son bonding time! Glad you two had such a wonderful day!

In terms of having a great day at a hobby shop, I know how you feel. It's great to find some place that has what you want, no ifs ands or buts. When I lived up in Virginia, Granddads Hobby Shop was the place to go - if they didn't have it, they'd order it. And the National Capital Model Soldier Society has their monthly painting sessions there - which was a terribly invaluable resource to this newbie. Indeed, I know that if Granddad's wasn't there, I wouldn't even be doing this hobby!
I certainly miss being able to go down there...

Now that I'm thinking about it, does anyone know of a good shop in the South Florida area? (I can't do 8 hours worth of driving, but I can do some.) There's one place here called "Hobby Nut" - but he has nothing really but remote controlled airplanes and cars. No figures at all! And not much at all for all you military modelling folks! Such a shame...

Well, thanks for sharing your day, Robert, it was good to hear!

Robert,

There is a figure shop in ZANESVILLE???? Please tell me more!!! I live in Lakewood(a block away from Wings), and would LOVE to see a figure store in N or NE.. heck, ANYWHERE in Ohio!

Jim the store Robert Merz mentioned is Slaters and it's located in Lancaster Ohio, Address and phone number: Slaters Hardwear Plaza Shopping Center 1141 N. Memorial Dr. Lancaster Ohio 43130 (614) 654 2204. They tend to have on hand quite a few Andrea figures and they do carry Warriors and even a few sets of Jaguar figures. They tend to get some odd ball figure sets everynow and then. The second shop is called Capstone Hobbies it's located in Westerville on Stelzer Rd. it's located in a small strip mall. They carry 120mm and even a few 1/9 th Warriors figures. There is also Depot Train and Hobby 4342 W. 130th ST Cleveland Ohio (216) 252-8880 they use to carry a nice selection of 1/35th resin figs. Plus lots of armor and some aftermarket. Ask for Loren. Hope this is some help. Brock

Gents, thank you both for your reply. I have heard about the hobby/hardware store in Lancaster, but never been Never heard about the shop in Westerville, and have known about Depot train since day one.(Loren is absolutely one of the nice guys).

Unfortunately, my interests don't really lay along the ww2 line, so, it is hard to find the stores that carry this stuff, as it simply is too hard to make a profit off of. I guess I will have to do like mot everyone else, and contend myself with mailorder and the 2 treks to MFCA and MMSI each year!

Good deal for you. I feel your pain. I live in Central PA and not too much nearby. I was doing backflips when a Hobbytown opened up here (I'm in Harrisburg). The only other two choices are a R/C race hobby shop that has a nice selection of models, and another across the river that has a decent model selection, too.

To feed my Figure jones, I road trip to Red Lancers in Milton. Only about 1.5 hours away.

90 min roadie to Red Lancers? I'd KILL to be able to do that!(I'm about 4.5 hours from Chuck). Heck, I drive 90 mins over to Erie Pa just to TALK to other people that have similar interests(well, I used to. There is a dedicated bunch of flat painters in Erie, and some guy named Gary Dombrowski that meet on a regular basis to joke around, yank each other's chains, and slap some paint, and then go out for bad Greek or Italian food- with work commitments, and the weather we have been having......)! Those of us who are involved in active clubs, and those that are able to shop on a regular basis are VERY fortunate. One thing about this hobby, it IS an isolated hobby!

Jeff and Jim,

We here in New Jersey are 2 1/2 - 3 hours from Chuck. We should plan an annual "meet and greet" at his shop. It would be nice to meet other pF'ers outside the show circuit.

Another hour in the car found us in Westerville, where we visited another well-stocked hobby shop.
Hey Robert, my brother lives in Westerville, if I had known they had a decent hobby shop out there, I'd have visited him by now. Thanks for info, maybe now I'll have the sufficient motivation to get off my cheap lazy butt and check out his digs.
Cheers
John B.
