A Fixture
This has been a awlful period of time for me. I received the news on Sunday and I was stunned, shocked. It took me a few hours to be able to post the news due to the utter disbelief and denial of Pete's passing.
I have known Pete for over 25 years, since the early days of Fort Royal. We were at a Birmingham show when he introduced himself, expressed an interest in sculpting for us and showed me something he had been working on. That figure is still on my website, such was the quality of sculpt and his capabilities, even then! Throughout the years Pete has sculpted numerous pieces for me, the mainstay of my range and business, thank you mate. Pete was a prolific sculptor and has worked for many leading companies and the lesser minions like me. He rubbed shoulders with the very best of our modelling peers and will stand tall in the history of model figures.
Much has been said of his character, yes he was a larger then life, bohemian and if anyone lived for the day it was him, I quite liked the Sunday morning Euro Pete though, boy those hangovers must have been bad, but there was another side to him. He could be a real pain in the backside to work with, but he was passionate about his craft, and yes he was a generous man. Of life, spirit and skill.
I had been in close contact with Pete over these few months, and I was due to collect a new figure this week. He was certainly in the zone and was his own prolific sculpting self. It pains me that in the future we won't see any new Pete work again. On Friday we chatted on the phone, boy he could talk! He wished me a good bank holiday, and as he always would say, " I think you're going to like this one mate" and then disapeared into time.
I wish I could find the right words for an epitaph, I can't, I am so lost for words as to know what to say. But maybe when you all read this, look in the display cabinet, or the grey army and I am sure that most of you, wherever you are in the world, will have a little piece of him there.
Thank you Pete for crossing my path in life, I am going to miss you,
Rob
