Richie's right... you know you want to do a full figure. How can you do a "Cherry Bum" if he has no bum? It's a beautiful uniform, head to toe.... DO IT!!!!

Colin

Guess you are right Colin.....by the time I get to his waist all he really challenging stuff is done for the 11th.

tumblr_lhjhrkU6Gt1qcp6xao1_400.jpgHello Colin, Sorry, couldn't help it, you are right about the uniform of the 11th Hussars at Balaklava, it is very unique. Best of luck with this very challenging project. Regards, SG:);)(y)

Hi Colin,

This bust has come out perfectly. Marvelous sculpting and painting and a very personal subject. Kudos to you for having the balls to take on such a challenging subject. Well done mate.

Sure why not....."

"Forward, the Light Brigade!"
Was there a man dismay'd? (Yes....me)
Not tho' the soldier knew
Someone had blunder'd: (time will tell)
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why, etc."

Colin
Theirs is just to do a full figure or die! Or something equally unpleasant but less permanent :sneaky:
And you can't do the fancy sabretache if you don't do the legs... Ontario sculpting rule #4225-7.3 "Figures with equipment hanging below the waist must have legs". I read it, it's there, take my word for it... really... honest injun:angelic:

Why not do the full figure in 1/9 scale (200mm)? You should then be able to get someone to cast it. Your bust would have made a great commercial piece.

Mike

Hi Colin, this came out an absolute beaut. The likeness is spot on, brilliant painting and a wonderful tribute.
Looking forward to seeing what you tackle next!
Cheers

Thanks for thinking it's worthy Mike. At this stage of life I am basically doing one offs and prefer 1/6 it thereabouts for scale. They look imposing in the cabinet and old farts like me can still see the detail. Perhaps I'll branch out a bit when I retire but that will likely be cuts on and commissioned pieces in the same scale. Thanks to all who commented.

Colin excellent sculpting and painting , a great likeness congrats and looking forward to your next project.(y)
