Settling in, I thought it prudent to share a project I'm working on.

This as you can see is a vignette/diorama set from Historex.
The scene appealed as its a little more relaxed, and has that human feel.
We all need a rest, revitalise etc, and I'm sure the French Empire troops very much felt the need too, especially with the speed and volume of miles traversed on a regular basis.

I intend to bulk out the scene a little with some extra figures from another manufacturer, namely Masterbox, who do an OK Red Lancer, needs a little correction work, accompanied by a young lady serving drinks.
Don't have pictures of that just yet.

So here's the starting point!

Keen to get stuck in, I attacked the cart first! Vehicles are my safe space :D And is a pretty straightforward construction, although a bit of research showed me that Historex got the wheel banding wrong! By this point in history it was a solid band shrunk onto the wheel, not multiple straps held in place with nails. But, I went with it as it could be any number of reasons thus. But should I do some artillery or wagons in the future.....

Whilst that was drying, time to start on accessories!
I then moved onto the engine! The strap work for the horse left a little to be desired so constructed a new assembly using some 0.2mm aluminium sheet I had knocking around, and added some details with the punch and die set.

End this with some pictures.

The Cantinier is in process of being re-scribed, a big job with the amount of layers she is wearing.

The first soldier going into the scene will be a Swiss Voltiguer of the 3rd regt, should add a nice alternative to French blue.
I started building him last weekend, and over the last few days viewing and considering, I think his pose is a little off, the right arm resting at the hip looks uncomfortable with crossed legs, especially with the left doffing his hat respectfully.

So that brings the project up to date. Still a long way to go!

I've not matched them up physically, but now you raise this I need to check, they are sold as 1/32, I think, doubting now.
If it is a differing size, easily left out.

The Masterbox Red Lancer is definitely smaller than Historex, but the young lady ,even though smaller, should work ok
I took this pic a while ago comparing the horse with a Historex, centre, and an Airfix ,right

Yes he is! I went and checked after posting, and quite a considerable size difference. Most definitely not 32nd.
The female figure could possibly still be viable, as the Cantiniers young daughter, I will need to assemble to get a better idea.

Very nice set, a diorama in a box, never had the nerve to tackle one of these sets Historex do, so will watch with great interest. On the scale size Historex do tend to 1/30 scale so matching other manufacturers will always be an issue.

Cheers Simon

Aren’t the Masterbox figures in 1/35?

The few I compared were far too small to mix with Historex (but I have not compared the lancer)

Masterbox line of Napoleonic cavalrymen (3 of them so far) are in 1/32(or so is stated on the box altough I have never made a side by side comparison)

I love this project and as others have said I admire your courage.I have all the medical branch of the French Napoleonic Army vehicles in my GA but I haven't found the nerve to tackle them. Will follow with great interest.
