Tidying the house at the weekend, I checked on my small - largely WW1 - bayonet collection and discovered...
Surface rust!!
On several scabbards, notably the German ones.
Time to draw on muzzle-loading hobby days and employ a pan scouring pad for some gentle scrubbing, followed by a layer of WD40.
All better now........
