Here's the Empire chair back roughed in with sculpey. Still needs some clean up and sanding. The two vertical pieces are built over fine wood dowel. The back is set into dremelled groves in the two verticals.

Sadly there are constraints when using sculpey for a large scale piece. It can be made pretty strong but if rolled too thin it would become too brittle.

Try mixing in a small percentage of Fimo Professional to the Sculpey mix, it will make it stronger and less likely to flake.
