Hello,

Here are a few pics of a new bust I'm making. This one is this years donation to the cause for the Artist Preservation Group and it depicts Winfield S. Hancock as he appeared at Gettysburg. Still working on the likeness. I attached a temp beard and moustache to show where it is. We're hoping to have castings available very soon...possibly at the Atlanta Show in late February.

Comments welcomed!

Matt is doing an awesome job on this bust. I applaud not only Matt's contributions to the APG, but his efforts to produce a first rate AND accurate portrait of Hancock. ~Gary

Thanks guys. I'm still not 100% happy with the likeness. I'll probably be fiddling with it as always right up to shipping it out.

As far as the hat tilt, unless Hancock is particularly known for a left tilt to the hat, I think it works better on the sculpt tilted to the right due to the pose. The hat will cover some of the face if I tilt it left as in the picture. Thoughts?

Yes, Jay. Definately more goatee. I may need a picture of yours for reference!;-)

Hi Matt,

That's a beautiful piece of sculpting mate. I'd like to see a photo of Hancock to compare the likeness, if you have one. The detailing around the nose and eyes is superb.

Here is the finished bust. Gary Dombrowski was invaluable in the research of this piece. Thanks, Gary! We hope to have some castings for pre-sale at the Atlanta Show. Thanks for looking.

That is Hancock

Matt, I really like the results very much. It`s not easy to make a bust subject look " aggressive " but you did it here. The profile especially is just right on !

I`m unlikely to make Atlanta, how do I buy one ?

Thanks
Rich
