Well Rog,as I have said in private this is a theme that has rarely been done even by Greeks (and even then the results left much to be desired). It is very emotional as it is a picture we all have in our heads since we've been taught about it in elementary school.I think you have what it takes to pull this off.We (fellow Greek modellers) are waiting with anticipation and I think you will not disapoint us.Now work that magic of yours Ρογήρε!

Thank you for the encouraging words, I'll do my best. :)

Splendid idea Roger(y). So..... when will they hand out your Greek passport? :D

Maybe I should do something on the theme of Bulgarian independence. When I was in Bulgaria a few weeks ago (longing to go back) my friends made me watch this:

Vreme Razdelno ('Times of Violence) a Bulgarian movie on forced Islamisation in the Rhodopi mountains during the 17th century. I understand that Bulgarians, as well as Greeks and other people from the Balkans, still celebrate their independence from Ottoman rule.

I wish Erdogan good luck with his plans for a renaissance of the Ottoman empire. This time he will find me alongside my Bulgarian brothers and sisters on the Shipka pass!

Anyway the movie is on youtube (in two parts) with English subtitles and is well worth watching. It has cult status in Bulgaria.

A moving scene from the movie in which the Turks led by Karaibraim do what you see them do during a traditional Rhodopi wedding. The song is called ' Zaplakala e gorata' (The Forest is Crying):

Nice hearing from you,Paul. You are right about the feelings of the Balkanian people against the Ottoman empire. And I think that you are right to think that Erdogan is quite a dangerous man ( not to mention a menace to his own people).A theme about Bulgarian independence you say? What a great idea. What about another of their national figures,Daskal Philip?

Oda.
