Howdy all, just finished this 1/16 scale BAR gunner by Alpine Miniatures. My only slight mod to this figure was to file away the 29th ID patch and replace it with a decal patch of 8th ID. While working on this, I thought often of my uncle, who survived 4 campaigns with the 8th and also earned himself 3 Purple Hearts! Anyway, let me know what you think.

Excellent job Joe!
I painted this figure as well and know that it is harder than it seems, with all the detail and both arms holding the gun making you having to think about the order of painting and assembly. I particularly like how you did his beard stubble, the rifle (do I see a blueish hue?), different hues in the khaki, and that you chose brown for the scarf, instead of green.
Nice job!

Cheers
Adrian

A lovely job, very realistic. One of the best renditions I've seen of this figure.

I've always liked this one, and it's near the top of my own "to do" list. I'm not sure what the thinking was at Alpine though behind the decision to mold on a patch for the 29th Div. Better surely to let the modeller make their own choice of unit insignia as you have done. But nevertheless, an easy fix.

Adrian, your version was stupendous and was in fact instrumental in drawing my attention to this figure and inspiring me to have at it myself. I shall be drawing inspiration from both yours and Joe's versions when I come to do my own. I hope I'll be able to do it justice because it is a lovely figure.

Hi Joe, this is one of my favourite Alpine figures and you've done a brilliant job of painting him up.
I particularly love his face and how you've painted the stubble.
Great work, mate! (y)

Thanks sd0324! As for the finish on the BAR, I kinda went at it on the fly. If memory serves me right, I used the following:
Vallejo's gunmetal, oily steel, natural steel, silver and black; I also added a touch of one of the dark blues from Andrea's Blue Set. Hope this helps.

I appreciate your comments Tony. I'm sure my uncle would of liked to of seen this too, but he passed way back when I was a kid. I do remember he had ugly scars on his legs and that he walked with a limp as a result of his wounds.
