Hi Planeteers,

what would interest me once:

How does your partner handle, actually, with your figure hobby?

With me it is in such a way that my woman tolerates my hobby and mostly subtly supports me with occasional criticism of my works.

And she has permitted that I spread out in the nicest room of our house - the winter-garden - with my modelling stuff...

But the hobby itself is nothing for she. She often says, this "fumble work" would make she mad...

However, to measuring and exhibitions etc. I go much alone - unless, the place is attractive for she for own activities, friends to visits, shoping, etc.

How is this with You?

Regards

She let me do my thing, and support me with let me buy the stuff i need.
Now and then she said: has you figures enough? Buy something, when you are with pension its hard to buy more.
So yes, in that way she support me....
I have no complains, but it disturb me that i always travel along to shows etc. But when i ask she always says: it's your hobby not mine.

So i leave it that way, then i cannot give her the blame for a disaster when i'm again painting beside the lines.

Hi Guys ,
My first wife hated it :p

My second threw most of my stuff out during the divorce:(

My 3rd wife got me back into modelling (y)..bargain and supports me so much , she is an artist and heavan knows how many times I have moved things around !!!!!! ...we currently "share" the study me on a little table in the corner and surrounded by books (gray army on landing at top of stairs together with all my other books!!!!) and Carole has the rest of the study for her art/easels etcs .

My wife has always accepted my hobby and supports me in it. She is the person I trust to give me brutally honest feedback when I paint something. I'm extremely fortunate that she understands my need to lock myself away for hours in my hobby room. As she's often said to me, it's better that I'm home and doing my hobby than down at the pub.

My wife is the bomb! She is totally cool with it, and let's me sit at the bench as much as needed (for most of the time anyway...). But not only that, she's really cool about having figure friends come over to the house on weekends, let's us play with our figures for a couple of days (or for a whole week)! She's even made the comment after they leave "when will we have our next guest?" so it has worked out real well.

Though I made the mistake once to take her to an IPMS show (though it was the Nationals in KC) and now she doesn't have much interest in going as that is the only show she has ever experienced. But I'll take her to a figure show one of these years and she will see the difference!

She's really into horses so the expense of figures is minimal in comparison, as such I get no greif over that either.

Couldn't be luckier!

Tony, the situation at my place is very similar and my understanding wife has mentioned the same thing about it being better that I'm at home and not at the pub.But she's never wondered why there's a ladder outside my hobby room window.I lock myself in my hobby room and re-emerge a couple of hours later quite refreshed.;):D

Supportive of course, wouldnt have it any other way. Not that Im married but we have been together for 20 years soon and have two kids which is more than the average marriage seems to last.

It perplexes me sometimes to hear that a spouse is not supportive of such an innocuous hobby. This hobby has always seemed very family oriented to me. We're home most of the time. It's relatively inexpensive. Although sometimes it can be a frustrating endeavor, overall I find it a relaxing exercise. What's not to like? Compare to fishing, hunting, golf and others.

My second wife saw ANY hobby as a drain on the family funds and loathed the fact that my attention would be on something " non-domestic " so much of the time, she used passive aggressive tactics to make sure projects would be stalled near completion.

Hence the criticism was valid " you never finish anything "

I actually ended up doing computer graphics for several years as she was unable to affect projects in Cyber space and auto save is easy to set up :)

14 years of that!

Anyway I have reverted to type now that cats are the only people I share my home with :)

Your lucky people when a partner supports and encourages you!

:)

I am one of the lucky ones as Maureen not only supports but also buys figures for Birthdays etc. She also likes to attend the shows and see what other people have done with figures. In return I reciprocate with her quilting and quilt shows.

Cheers

I had the pleasure of meeting John's other half Maureen, and can attest to the great support he gets. What an angel!

My better half lets me spend as much time as I like, but she also knows I'll never find the time! Didn't complete a single figure whole of last year and the last time I touched a brush was 2 months ago!
