Next project once my 28mm Duellists are completed.

An older Andrea 1/10 bust of an officer of the Polish Lancers of the Imperial Guard in Review order. I have included a couple of pics by other artists of inspiring paint jobs on this same bust.

A bitch to assemble given it’s a mix of resin and white metal. A couple of pieces were lost, necessitating some minor sculpting.

Hi Colin

It’s a good subject , I think one of Andrea’s better ones ....interested in what issues you experienced in the build

Looking forward to seeing more especially the facings

If I may ..........below a version by Peter Kalinowski

Have fun @ the bench

Saw that Nap. Thank you. Another fine finished example. I agree this is one of Andrea’s better busts in terms of appearance and feel for the period. I got this discounted from Artists’ Preservation Group in one of Mike Stelzel’s FB fund raising efforts. So a good cause supported.

Issues were fiddling with the chapska cords, hooks, chin chain and aiguillettes and the pleasures of super glue. All are the added pieces soft bendable white metal and all must be bent and attached in a specific order (the instructions are woefully inadequate with 4 small B&W pics of the completed assembly). The positioning was very fiddly and likrely a mystery for anyone unfamiliar with Napoleonic uniform. I was also missing the chapska hooks. I spent a while trying recreate them in wire before sering the light and settling on duro.

Give me molded on resin details any day, even if the white metal looks better. But if detail has to be bent and added (like the hanging chin chain), white metal is very much superior to bending resin…I will always break resin cords and chains. I think I am becoming more of a fan of 3D printed busts after this. Our maybe I’m just getting cranky and old.

Broke my rule about working on multiple projects simultaneously. I have added a couple of flesh base cots and some diluted inks to define the features and shadows for painting. The inks are Liquitex sepia and purple.

I also took the opportunity to fill some pin point air bubble holes with a combo of paint and artist’s acrylic gesso, brush applied.

I found that I was bending his aiguillettes while working on the face. We all know how that would end up. So I braced the cords with some kit packing foam and masking tape. Seems to have solved the issue.

Hi Colin

Nice bit of dabbling on the face ...starting to come together now ....looks better with 👀...scary without 👻

That’s a good idea about packing the aguilettes .......I would guarantee to remove mine ! ......and probably knock the plume off !....( did you pin it ? )

Nice link for references , a much covered subject which is ideal

Looking forward to seeing more

Have fun @ the bench

Normally I would add any draping cords after main body painting but I think this could be horrible experience with this bust. Bracing them worked well.

I didn’t pin the plume. Just cut a bit off the bottom (which was too long IMO) and epoxied. Once that was dry I added a super glue collar around the plume base (over the epoxy) to further stabilize it.
