I agree with John, I also like the sideways glance and would add the colors he has sugested. Looking forward to seeing more!

John,
Without the mustache, he kind of looks like Omar Sharif :) :) :) But seriously, it's looking good so far. What about adding some red to the cheeks? This would add some "life" to the face. What do you think?

after reading the comments hopefully you will see an improvement

Thank you guy, I do feel the temptation to do a bit more with the face, but I will leave it for a couple of days and then have another look. sometimes I get a bit carried away and then ruin the whole thing. :(

Hi John

maybe its the piccs or me but how about a touch more highligh on extremeties of teh cheek bones, but you could have used your flash on your camera

other than that

lookng good matey

Gave it a couple of days and had a look at the face again. I have put a few extra dobs of paint on and I think I like it. I am debating about putting some varnish on the eyes to enhance the alive look.

He's looking better every time I see him John. I guess I will have to order this one as you have inspired me to try one myself.

guy

He is a very nice purchase Guy. I am working on the headgear at the moment. I have basecoated in a dark brown, Lamp black oil over the top of that. the plan is too pick up odd hairs using Gold ochre, orange and Indian red. Trying to keep my light source in mind, this may prove to be more of a cunning plan than the actual end result!

Hey John!

He is looking great! I think that you have made some great improvements on the face. As for the gloss on the eyes, I would suggest painting some pure white specks on the eye balls (if you painted them off white that is) and a couple of catch lights on each iris. This will enhance the life of the figure. Sometimes a gloss varnish can look a bit goofy in miniature, as if it is gloss coated, you are relying on the lightsource where the figure is shown but when you paint them you can control the light source and 'match' it to the rest of the lighting 'scheme' on the figure. Hope this made some sense! Keep up the great job!

At this stage i would love to post a fantastic picture of work done, however due to me not getting much done I can not, what fool invented work! . I have decided that I will paint him up as a 5th Hussar and have got the base colours all on.
I will be trying to put the good advice from Lou about the painting of gold and not using metallics in place at the weekend.

Hey John............I look forward to seeing your bust's next picture. You have definetely inspired me to order this bust and give him a try myself. Now I'll just pull up my chair and wait patiently for your next installment. ( where's the foot stool?)

guy

Guy, stand by to take your feet of the foot stool
I have managed to work out that I need to post the picture of the work that I have done. all very basic but the foundations are laid to get something done at the weekend. hooray (y)

Not connected to this thread, really but it did get a mention at the start. I was digging through some old pictures and found this one just for Joe Hudson. the last tartan I painted on a figure. This along with a lot of other stuff was thrown out when I got a bit hacked off with the whole subject of modelling a couple of years back, but that is a story with a lot of strong language not suitable for this forum.
