hi,
this is the first miniature that i have done. i finished it about a week or so ago. it is a german sniper in the winter of 1944. i used the andrea paint sets for this as i am new to the hobby and needed a bit of guidance with colours and shading. please give me criticism that will help me get better.

the snow that has smudged on the walls and stuff has been removed aswell as the sling as i didnt think it looked right.

if you may allow me to point you a little and since we are in this section of the forum,
about hilight and shadow, it is hard to say where should be - but you can use the photo you take to guide where to paint shadow and highlight - also (for me) check other's people works that show well where is highlight - get same figure and follow that

yer, i tried to use the box pictures as much as i could for colour referance and highlights/shadows. also, i have added some dirt and mud to the knees and elbows of the figure, aswell as the diorama, to give it that muddy half melted effect.

Hi Andrew, The whites need more tonal variation. If you're using the Andrea set its a warm white not a cool white. Since this is a winter uniform then we would expect it to be cooler whites. Look to Joe Hudson's SBS on painting whites. your face needs more highlghting and shadows. I hope this helps you. You can PM me if you want to discuss more.

yes, i would love that. i am thinking about getting another one and having another go, hopefully better this time. i am still quite pleased with it though being my first. do you guys have skype? would it maybe be easier to do it this way?

Hi andrew, you have made a very nice job considering its your first figure, perhaps some more variation in the shading of the whites could have been used, however i'm only judging it from the photo,so the shading may be ok,a very good first figure.(y)
I paint in oils so i have never used the andrea white set so i cant really coment on the paint.
Thanks for posting and will look forward to seeing more of your figures in the future (y)

thanks for the reply and suggestion. i am switching over to oils to try them out for a bit as they look easier to use and blend in. i will gt another one of these and have another go to make it better hopefully.
