Some progress! Not too much. But back on track.

The tower has been assembled.
Happy times with the bolts this time around.
I think heating them with a hairdryer helped them slice off a bit easier .
It was one chance then I was going to build the jig thing suggested.
But saved a bit of time which is always good.

Not great cuts though. Just aswell it's heavy weathered and abandoned let me tell you :)

This is how it's looking before the chipping medium layer which is up next. Which I've only done four times now I think. Mixed results. So let's see.

Forgot to grab a pic before primed.
Here's a shot primed and the underlayer...

The underlayer I just plopped about 8 different colours (acrylics) featured on rust and with a back and forth mixture of sponging and wiping with my finger. Very chaotic.
Then dabbed on bubbling rust from Mantis games. Nice stuff.
Heavier in parts where I guessed rain would build up and can reveal after chipping.

Hi Colin

Good to see a update on this , nice rusting on the tower , looks like you had fun , that “bubbling rust” sounds interesting

Looking forward to seeing more

Happy benchtime

Well rusted will look great poking through the paint layer. Never used chipping fluid I always used hairspray, not s controllable but it worked OK.

Cheers Simon

Paint work is looking good. Almost looks like he has been compromised and is gunning for his life
Thanks Scott. Yeah funny you say that. I have little surprise addition to make to the scene... He's definitely under suppression! Cheers mate.

Thanks again Nap
More on the way soon! It's definitely a fun princess. Over too quick though haha. That only took 20 mins.
With the aid of a hairdryer between layers etc. Cheers!

Oh I forgot.. I've tried the salt and hairspray once before. Nice results. But I've lost the mini can of hairspray I had. But you can't get a great effects with it mate yeah.
If the chipping fluid ain't great I might redo and go nuts with the salt.

Results from the chipping work are in.
Fairly happy with it. As always with these effects I maybe went just a bit ott. I rememberd after I wanted to leave a bit more fuller sections of paint to get some nice contrast for streaks.
But not a disaster.

First photo is after the chipping.
Second shot is with some Mig ammo shader - light rust to knock things back a bit.

Third shot I introduced some oil paint and streaks. Taking a break and looking at it I'll ease off on the oils I think on the next session.
This is the opposite side of where the sniper will roughly be so hopefully my touch will be more refined come then.

Last pic is the reference picture I chose to kinda follow.

More soon! Cheers!

Oh cracking job, I think you captured the ref picture perfectly there but I understand it is so easy to get carried away.

Cheers Simon

Thanks Simon
Yeah it's not the best ref pic but not a million miles away I thought.
Cheers!

It's good though that amount of oxidisation has got to be right for a distopian future, (wow didn't know I knew big words like that!). Good job I proof read that auto correct changed it to historian, stooopid bloody computers!

Cheers Simon

Like I can see you have fun with this LOL ,to be honest on the little pictures I must look very good
what is the real one, didn't see it,so great job (y)

I think you pretty much nailed the rust chipping. Great painting, will probably look even better when you get some other pieces in there for scale.

Thanks mate. Much appreciated!
Yeah I sat the sniper next to it when I was done. And yes it's looking the part :)
Things will get even more intricate and detailed when I do the handrails etc too.
It should all come together nicely.

... Famous last words! :/
