I know this topic has been discussed before and I'm not sure if it belongs on pF but I've kept my views quiet, until now.

One Andrea figure has sparked my interest. Not only for the pose but the subject. It's a Prussian soldier from the Nap Wars. Cool pose, good sculpting...BUT NOT WORTH $36.95 FOR A 54mm!!!

I found this on the Michigan Toy Sodier website upcoming releases section, and I about fell out of the chair. I doubt the price is different anywhere else, but I'm praying this is some huge typo.

I know, I know, vote w/ your wallet and thats what I'll do. And God love the people that can afford a $36.95 for a 54mm figure. But for me, NO 54mm figure is worth that...and I don't care who sculpts it!

Moderators, please feel free to yank this off the forum. I just feel better typing it

As long as this is a healthy and civil debate, I see no harm. If it gets into any manufacture/vendor trashing and bashing it will be dealt with.

I think some of the vendors realize how people feel about the rising pricing as Michigan Toy Soldier offers a 20% discount on Andrea. But that only brings it down to $29.67. I looked at Squadron Shop and they advertise it at $32. and change.

I think alot of us feel the same and the best voice is through our wallets and definately Shop around

well, here in Spain 16 € (20$) come to Spain in summer and enjoy your holidays+shopping :)

btw, it's sculpted by a good friend Joaquin Palacios (Elf Archer, Aramis, Porthos...)

Thanks Gordy, I guess I was trying to make a statement rather than start debating or bashing. I really like that figure but man-o-man that is just too pricy.

I have bought 54mm figures in the past that where $20.00+, but when you get ino the $30's...

Being 30 years old, I guess I still have this naive and un-educated look at global economics.

What does a figure manufactured in the U.S. in Spain cost? I think a comparison would be illuminating. Are [U.S.] kits seemingly more expensive to other countries?
I'm inclined that the import/shipping/duties play a major part in the price.

The path a product takes to get from "A" to "B" to "U" has much to do about the price.

No problem, Just wanted to keep this thing on track ;)
Sometimes running a forum is like steering an aricraft carrier through the Panama Canal with one of those little wooden spoons off those little packs of ice-creams

don't feel bad at all i'm 33, and considering that I drop $50-60 bucks on a PC/Playstation video game...

Thanks for clarifying that Guy. Those guy's at MTS are my people

Jason,
I am not a 54mm figger painter...I really stay in the 70-120mm range, but I have to agree that $36.95 for a 54mm figger is expensive. My concern is that we are closing in on almost a dollor per mm...that is wicked scary...
Just my thoughts...

Hello,
I just checked at the official Andrea Website and they sell it for 16 Euros (without shippig cost of course) wich is normal over here. I think that the fact that euro currency is about 1.3 US dollar has to do with it. But 1.3*16 is only 20.8 Us dollars... Maybe it will be more interesting to buy it directly from Andrea website ?
It makes a change for us here since it has been very expensive for us to buy imported products from the US for a long time. This is a little change.

As I suspected, the issue isn't one sided ;)

Jason, That is a fantastic figure, man! The downside is the cost, maybe it might be cheaper ordering directly from Andrea. I but very few figures, mostly because I scratchbuild them, cost I guess is the other reason.~Gary

Dudes, I just turned 38 today , so I guess that makes me an old man

But it is funny indeed: 16euro in Spain, double of that price in the USA... makes me wonder if Andrea never heard of reductions for retailers? Now I have seen more furious outbursts on forums about the sometimes outrageous prices Andrea ask for their figures outside of Spain, and I propose that, if Andrea themselves read this, that they would post some comments here - fair enough?

And by the way, that looks like a great figure - wish it was 90mm

It is certainly worth shopping around. Here is an example: Andrea recently released a two-figure set called "Comrades in Arms" depicting a Napoleonic retreat from Russia scene. Squadron lists it for $39.97 while Red Lancers lists it for $27.95. Not a bad price for two 54mm figures. Keep in mind that the US dollar isn't as strong as usual right now and shipping from Spain isn't cheap, either!

I agree that the prices are getting really high. But as long as people are willing to pay it and they sell their prodcuts I am afraid it is not going to change much.

BTW Happy B-Day Johan!

well, i browsed in andrea's website as if i were living in the States and it goes to 37,50 € (including taxes and shipping&handling), that's 47 bucks, guys, so...

i guess it's not Andrea's fault, it's about the mailing system i guess :(

Thanks!

But what do we have to do then to persuade them to lower the retail price outside of Spain - a boycot?

i guess it's not Andrea's fault, it's about the mailing system i guess

c'mon, be serious!... more than a 150% price increase when you buy one in the USA, that's not just the "mailing system", that's sheer bloody highway robbery! They used to hang people for that.
Seriously, I feel Andrea should read this topic and give us customers an explanation. Perhaps one of the Spanish speaking members could send them an e-mail and then come back here to report on what they have replied.
