Hi Martin
Last time I'll butt into your thread...
I had my friend Viktor at work translate the passage from the book I got. The metal iteam is a ceremonial drinking (alcohol) cup. Definitely a cossack cup... the ball on the bottom is there so that once the cup is full of vodka, it can't be put down on the table until all is drank :D It would be an insult if the cup tipped over and the vodka is spilled.

Thanks Viktor (Mushka) for the help :joyful:

Back to the SBS ;)

Colin

Thanks Colin!!!

73. Day, 14. February 2014
Let us now turn to the pistol , which carries our Cossack with him.
Again, I 've been looking again for something special in researching and have to Andy proposed a veritable " Room Flak " .
In the 17th Century (and probably later) were guns in circulation, with a particularly Long barrel ... :
73_1_zps7d034bac.jpg

The Long barrel brought two advantages: The bullet left the barrel when firing at a higher Speed than a "normal" barrel. The bullet flew thus more stable, and more - more accurate !
73_2_zpsb0d9805d.jpg

The downside : The long run and the heavier handling related made such a pistol not necessarily into a melee weapon.
But for the melee Cossacks wore sword and dagger ....
Andy has sculpted such a pistol with an extra long barrel. Here is a white metal casting of the whole weapon ... :

Into the house then the pistol comes in two pieces :
The part which is later to be seen above the sash and the barrel that is later protrude below the sash ... :
73_3_zps74418ec3.jpg

If you compare the pictures of the white metal gun with the resin part , you will see that Andy has the later under the sash no longer visible Piece have cut in the separation of the gun in the upper and lower part .So it is not necessary to cut anything more to be made to fit. Good preparatory work of the sculptor !
I started today with the livery of the first gun piece.
Again, the piece with carpet tape came on a toothpick and was primed .
Then I have with these colors ...
73_4_zps5b2b8043.jpg

First, the " pieces of wood " painted - with a tiny grain , but which you can still see good later.
With these colors ...
73_5_zpsd96cc0a6.jpg

...I have the metal piston shoe painted as " brass " , and then darkened it with a thin broth made of brass and black in multiple " Wash 's " downward, - according to the later incident light.
So it has become ... :

74. Day, 17. February 2014
Today I have painted the metal parts of the pistol, barrel , lock, trigger, trigger-guard.

I did that with these colors ... :

74_1_zpsddc8d9f4.jpg

The metal parts were initially given a very thin base coat with " Oily Steel" . Subsequently, a "wash" with an aqueous broth of " Oily Steel" and "Black " . The broth runs into joints and gaps and provides three-dimensionality.

After that I have attached with pure silver a few reflections .

At the last moment I have changed my mind , and painted the guard-trigger , just as the piston-shoe , with these colors ...

74_2_zpsd4914641.jpg

... as " brass " .

Now is the tiny thing ...

...in front of me, and I like it quite well ... :

78. Day, 21. February 2014
Such were their daggers , Cossacks carried around with themthat time...:
78_1_zps785e9056.jpg

Depending on the personal possibilities of their respective owners , they were decorated very rich.
Andy has the Cossack figure , of course, given on his way way ... :
78_2_zps8333c22b.jpg

This little thing I have painted today. I painted- almost - white " horn"-handle that is studded with small silver nails. The dagger sheath I have made black, with a thin locket made of brass.
These colors stuck in the dagger ... :
78_3_zpsb13bd3e7.jpg

And so it has become ... :
78_4_zpscb3317a9.jpg

I had already such a strange feeling while painting - but when I look at the picture above, I come to the conclusion : No! Like it absolutely not!

I will make it new! Next week ...

79. Day, 24. February 2014

Our dagger handle is revised , is now goldbrüniert therefore - and has on each side handle eight individual " rubies " .

Sits on top of the knob one more " Ruby" - a work for " finger breaking" .

The " Rubies " I painted with this color ... :

79_3_zpsaad81cc0.jpg

After that they each got still a drop of " Gloss Varnsh " ...:

79_4_zps10dbe32c.jpg

So it looks now . The dagger scabbard is revised with " Milliput " - and I'm still not quite sure if I performing simple black or golden ...

Thanks Joe!

I have to paint ready the dagger, then it will be fixed to the figure. And after that the next Detail will be the ends of his sash...

Cheers

Martin I have to tell you that your Cossack would not be able to sneak up on anyone, what with all that gear hanging off his belt, every step he takes would sound like a Chinese kitchen!:D Joking aside, you're doing marvelous work and I salute you!(y)

82. Day, 27. February 2014

Well, the next detail are the ends of the sash of our Cossacks !
These ends were either wrapped around the sash - or freely worn hanging down ... :

82_4_zps06417dcc.jpg

Andy has given our Cossacks a fluttering in the wind sash on the way ... :

82_2_zpsd06d736e.jpg

The sash is nively done - but to me it is somehow too "restless", and hides too many of the little details.

I was actually going from the beginning to replace these sashes ends through peaceful hanging parts that I wanted to make " Milliput " .

But it turned out differently ... :

As a good friend gave me during the festive season a small Cossack snowman ...

82_3_zps041e0d5a.jpg

...and I had heard that they like and often kneads with " Fimo " I have sometimes asked if she would like me to make as a sash .

I then had a rough sketch ...

82_7_zpsc79dd06d.jpg

...sent to Hamburg - and then had at Christmas not just one, but three versions of " Fimo " in my hands - left the original ... :

82_5_zpsd765fa0f.jpg

I have decided for the middle copy - it has the most beautiful drape and it fits !

The small part I will paint separately - today it was only cleaned in an ultrasonic bath , then glued to a toothpick and primed.

83. Day, 28. February 2014

As at that time also the sash of our Cossack ...

83_3_zps1284033a.jpg

...today I have also painted the sashes ends as "brocade".

For that I have with these colors ...

83_2_zps69294db0.jpg

...always spotted in other mixtures point to point, until I liked the "brocade"...:

83_1_zps0c272136.jpg

The brocade looks really good Martin. I wanted to try something similar on one of my cossack's sash... Do you just do random spots with the gold colour or do you follow a specific brocade pattern?

Looks really to this point, getting pretty close to the end... can't wait! (y)
