Aquilifer, first century A.D
Pegaso Models
Ref : 75-016
12 parts, 350 gr., 75 mm
Sculpted by Yuri Serebriakov

Hello planeters!

I have just finished today this Aquilifer. It took me one month of work. I will present my manner to work.. First of all, Aquilifer means “carrying eagle”. The eagle represents the image of the Emperor, its carrier is thus a legionary of value, and bearing as symbol of its row an animal skin which can be of lion in homage to Hercules or wolf according to the Roman tradition. The loss of the eagle during the battle was considered by the Romans a harmful fact the legion.
The figure has a good quality and very minimal seam lines.
The maximum of elements are sticked before the basecoat and painting.

You see the paper clip in the feet, for fixing in the base. The basecoat it’s apply for a white srpay of Citadel and brushed with a toothbrush for smooth the surface.
I started with the face, but the helmet hamp the paint of the eyes, I this, I photograph the head, and control the defaults on my computer screen.

I continue by metals and leathers

The continuation...
The shield

The small elements not sticked

I finish by the painting of lion skin, and start again the differents elements, leathers, gladius, shield, tunic, trousers, and the base…

Yours comments are welcome, in this way, you help me to progress. It’s difficult to me, to more explain, because I have not a vocabulary necessary....

Bruno,

The paitning is real good. That lionskin is awesome. Outstanding.
But the standing off the figure on the base??? It seems to me that he is almost falling backwards. Maybe it is the angle of the picture.

Not very satisfied with my work, I took again painting on this figure. The shield is a old-fashionned, it seemed to me too new, the eyes of the lion were remakes, because in the origin they are in glass, I think that the black is better than the green, Whento say "Yarok" a french painter. You can see here : http://www.coolminiornot.com/127399 . The result. It's not perfect, but it seems better to me. If you want to note down, don't hesitate ;)

Hello Bruno,
I think you are like most of us painters.......we are never happy with our own work and it never comes out like we would want it to. We each have our own style and we are our own worst critics........don't be too hard on yourself......you did an excellent job with your figure.
What you see on your figure you think can do better on, remember this when you come to another figure using the same color.

I think your version came out much better than mine.

Thank You Guy, you are very kind. Our versions are very near, and really I prefer your base. I am content that we have the same tastes for beautiful figures.

Roc : I am exacting with myself….according to my wife...:) , a little too. I only seek to become a good painter, it's long and difficult. Thank you to encourage me when sometimes I doubt.
