Im thinking of taking a 120mm figure I have, putting some seran wrap over it to not damage it, and sculpting the helmet over THAT then taking it off after its dry. that a good idea?

Smeagol, a good thing when you are starting out is to learn about "2 part push molds" just google that.... Make a push mold of the head you want to use, you can use sculpey for your push molds. Make a copy of a head you want to use, then sculpt over that.... You can't and shouldn't use push molds if you are making commercial sculpts (copyright infringement), but for one off's and learning, go for it. I use push molds for my armatures all the time. I sculpted a generic head, that I use as the start for all my heads.... I also have a torso, pelvis, thigh and calf blank push molds to use. If you have watched the Ander's videos, you will get an idea of what I am talking about, on how he makes his mannequin.

A friend told me about push molds not to long ago to replace a lost suspension part to a 1/72nd sherman tank model, I have yet to give it a try but I want to.

No idea if this will work so if it doesnt, Ill edit it. (ok, it works) Sorry about the size, not my camera and so I dont wana screw with the settings

First the leg I have 'finished' still might need some work we will see. Also you can see my work on the armature. I followed the el greco miniatures link that was given, found it very helpful. Since I was not 100% sure of what I wanted the dio to look like I did not putty the joints, elbows shuolders, knees, etc, so I could change the pose on the fly, which I ended up doing. Origionally this figure was just laying dead, I changed it to be more dynamic, raising himself up to fire off a last shot at his attacker.

So this is the armature/mannequin, and the finished leg. Also the feet are not glued onto the armature so I can take them off, sculpt them and put them right back onto the wire armature where they came from for a nice snug fit. for the folds and such I used the internet, searched for guys laying down in jeans... only found one or two workable pictures and a bit to much guy dong for my liking... but anyhow.

Ok, this is the work on the helmet and weapons (the weapons are not for this char but the other one that will acompany him. The spear though, will be inside the guy's chest, as you can see by the hole and slot for it.

The links do are not working and coming up with an error notice.
Appreciate this thread is a couple of years old but would really appreciate some tutorials if possible please

Hi Chibi,
Do you have a set of scale anatomical drawings for starters? If you don't PM me and I could e-mail you a set, you would need to scale them before printing them out, this is the what determines the height etc of your armature. Besides looking at some of the great work on here, there is some excellent sculpting videos on youtube. There are also some great books available such as http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dynamic-Wri...e=UTF8&qid=1375615211&sr=1-3&keywords=drapery
Oh yes some of the best sculptors in the world are members on here, study their work.
cheers
