Hi Guys
Here's my most recently completed figure this one is Naked Army Lone Pine the original is a cold cast bronze i cut the slouch hat off and resculpted a soft cap and neck shade cloth which to me was more iconic at lone pine .Painted in JoSonja acrylics with flesh done in w&n oils .
Still has to be fitted to the base and be dirtied up a bit
All comments and critisisms welcome
Cheers
Al

Hi Al ,

I see you have put the mix in the other NA figure

http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/12th-battalion-aif.79800/

so for the others here it is

i use JoSonja acrylics my recipe for khaki is raw sienna and burnt umber if i'm making an Australian Khaki i add green then use the raw sienna highlight , for the trousers i used the base mix lightened slightly with pearl white then i use a small amount of cobalt blue to grey it down to give a worn colour for highlights i add a small amout of pearl white

Love it !

Thanks Nap
Much appreciated , i love using JS as they dry completely flat
My basic mix for khaki is JS Raw Sienna with a little burnt umber i also use olive green to make my basic mix then for highlight i add smoked pearl and a little raw sienna to the basic mix if i want to make an older sun affected khaki i add a touch of cobolt blue i don't use set percentages of colour i just play with it till the colour suits the feel i'm after
I also mix my palate with JS texture paste for these large figures and stipple the paint till i'm happy with the textured result
You can also try raw sienna and raw umber as well to give another version of khaki depending on what colour tone you want
Cheers

Alan does wonders with the JS texture paste. Having seen these figures at Al's house the look of the coarse uniforms is even better in the "flesh" so to speak. He really does push the boundaries with these big figures!!!

Al,
That is a lovely piece of work, and beautifully executed. One comment if I may, and please don't take this the wrong way, as I love the piece you have painted. The colour patch (black over red horizontal rectangle) is the 5th Battalion which did not take part in the attack. The attack was made by the battalions of the 1st Brigade and a black over green colour patch (1st Battalion) would be historically accurate.

Chris

Thankyou all for your kind comments gentelmen.
Dan as much as i'd love to get to Chicago i won't be able to get there at this stage

Chris
Thankyou for your kind comments and you are correct .
I guess I should have called this piece the Battle for Lone Pine .
I wanted to honour the original 5 Bn for my uncle , who fought in New Guinea with the 2/5 Bn at Wau Salamaua
My research indicated that the 5 Bn fought at Krithia then moved on to fight at Lone Pine later in the battle.
that is the reasoning for me using the 5 Bn colour patch .
Regards
Al
