Thanks guys, I appreciate your comments and suggestions.

I agree that the best time to cut the legs and make up a base to add resin water was before I started painting. That ship has sailed now, so the next best strategy is to paint the existing base.

My plan is to paint the water in a series of layers, with a coat of gloss clear between each layer of colour. Hopefully this will create the impression of some depth and transparency to the water.

OK guys,

I've made a start on the water at the base of these figures. These colours are intended to represent the base of the stream. I'll progressively build up the layers of gloss to represent deeper water.

I've started oil washing the figures to increase the sweat and grime factor. Adding a wash of Burnt Sienna and Prussian Blue to the shirt and shorts has definitely made the shirt look sweaty and rotten. Result.

I've also added some blood effects on the head wound bandage and the right hand. I didn't want to go overboard with the blood but at the same time I didn't want to sanitize the scene and rob it of its pathos and emotion.

Like the way you are approaching the base ..

Painting really coming together and the blood looks really good ......just enough without being over the top and a good colour as well

Hope you feel better

Happy painting and thanks for sharing

Hi Dan, thanks for your comments mate. The rubber cape is undergoing some extreme weathering at the moment. Lots of pigments being used to show a build up of mud and dirt.

Hi nap, thanks again for your comments. I'm now put two layers of gloss on the water, and started to build up some colours. It will take 24 hours between each coat, so this gives me time to work on the weathering in the meantime.

Hi Steve, cheers buddy. The final touches is where the magic happens. Hopefully next time you see the pics, this piece will be finished.

Looks like you're well on the way to getting an excellent water effect.
The weathering, wet trousers, and effective blood are combining perfectly towards a superb vignette.
I also noticed the hairy legs. It's such extra little details that make your work stand out.

Chers,
Andrew

Hi guys,

this vignette is now 99% complete and I've put it aside for a little while so I can get on with some of my other projects. I intend to come back to it in a couple of weeks time and put on some final touches and a final layer of gloss varnish for the water effects. I'll show you all the final photos once I've had a chance to look at it with fresh eyes. I've been working on & off on this project for several months now and I need a break from it.

Hi Tony

Good to hear of the progress ...a good decision it's a intensive piece to work on look forward to updates when you are ready ...in the meantime enjoy the other projects
