Hi Guys ,
Thanks again ...update .....
My mate Tony Dawe from down under advised me the title is incorrect ....... Here's the details from his pm .....
Hi Kevin,
The title "ANZAC Light Horse" is technically incorrect.
The "ANZAC" mounted forces that fought in WW1 were the results of combining the Australian Imperial Forces and the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces into the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps for service at Gallipoli. The Australian Light Horse and the New Zealand Mounted Infantry did not take their horses to Gallipoli and fought as unmounted infantry. A small number of mules and horses did serve at Gallipoli, but only as beasts of burden and not in any combat capacity.
After Gallipoli, the ANZAC forces were reorganised into 2 Army Corps with the mounted forces largely allocated to the Desert Mounted Corps for service in Palestine, while the bulk of the infantry were sent to France..
To give this bust its correct title, he is a trooper of the Australian Light Horse of the Desert Mounted Corps, not the ANZAC Light Horse. If he was a Kiwi (which would involve some changes to his headgear), he'd be a trooper of the New Zealand Mounted Infantry of the Desert Mounted Corps, not the ANZAC Light Horse.
Tony ,
