Hi Chris,
I'm located in Brisbane as well and if I didn't have such busy weekends with work and kids sports I'd be trying to get to the meets the guy's have every month. I really look forward to the QMHE in August every year though and also like Tony feel glad PF exists so I can get my fix of miniatures.

Regards
Chris

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your reply. Seems you have a few figures painters up there. Hope Debbie's flooding hasn't affected you and Al too much. Quite a cyclone.

Cheers
Chris

Yeah, there are a few painters as well as sculptors up in Queensland and they're a pretty good bunch as well.

I'm lucky to be in a pretty much flood free area and was just coming off a night shift to days off so drove throught the increasing wind and rain first thing in the morning without any issues.
The last couple of school days were cancelled before Easter hols so the kids were happy with that. Unfortunately a lot of people are now looking at lots of flooding some receiving 800+mm in only a few hours. If I'm lucky I'll try and start on a new sculpt as well as finish one off, but it is school hols and madness ;)
Cheers
Chris.

800 + mm in a few hours!!! That is 170 mm more than Canberra's average annual rainfall. No wonder the flooding in SE Queensland and northern NSW looks bad. Keep safe.

I have found most modellers are a good bunch, always happy to help and provide hints on improving one's work.

I will be in Brisbane in July, catching with some old mates - and I mean old in both senses of the word.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris
All good where i am in the southern outskirts of Brisbane,The Albert and Logan Rivers are rising today, the Gold Coast hinterland had huge rainfall , you'd remember very well what it's like around Canungra, everything from those areas running into both rivers and will peak around midnight tonight, may have to keep and eye out for a bearded man in an ark
Cheers
Al

Spoke to my Mum on the Gold Coast tonight. She says they've had 500mm of rain in the past 24 hours.
Yep, crazy amounts of rainfall all throughout Qld and Nsw by the look Tony, definitely a tough few days ahead for a few people with the flooding thats followed.

Hi guys, I've been following your discussion, and I had no idea about the practicalities of travel in Australia, but then all I know about Australia is that you are our finest enemies in sport and our greatest mates in everything else.
I hope you don't mind the advice, but why don't you contact the figure painter magazines and see if you can find out what the distribution actually is in Australia. You might find new people who have never heard of planetFigure or modelling clubs. It may not come to anything but you never know????
Best wishes and keep the faith, Gary

Thank you for your kind words and advice Gary. I am glad you have liked the discussion, and yes we have a few challenges getting round the country. Driving has its challenges. Had a mate drive up from Melbourne for a wedding in January ( 7 hours one way), and again for a 70th birthday last weekend. On the way back the first time he just missed a kangaroo that jumped out in front of him on the highway, but this time he nailed it - a kangaroo tore off the front left side of his new mustang. Thank goodness he was OK and there was no structural damage - and was able to make it back to Melbourne. The kangaroo wasn't so lucky.

Cheers
Chris

I think a lot of the feeling of distance comes from your backgrounds. I just did a trip to Adelaide from Melbourne and back within a week, 8 hours each way but the driving is easy and Aussies have traditionally favoured big cars that eat up the kms with no issues. Yet some sooky la la's moan about driving 1 hour from one side of town to the other.

It's the truckers who have me in awe with the the distances. As the saying goes without trucks Australia stops.
