Just to confirm that my picture taking is still not up to scratch I present to you my latest painting effort. It's an Austrian Infantry Officer in 54mm by Durendal. Fun project that worked out pretty well( I think!!)

A little less glare, a little more shadow

Lovely painting as always.

How about this Stephen? All I did was run the photo through Photoshop and re-save. I reduced the glare and changed the contrast. There is still a bit too much glare on the cheek and too much shadow under the helmet. Couldn't fix that. Also the bottom part of the figure now may be a bit too dark. Probably that's controllable but I don't know how to do that. One of the dangers with processing the photo through Photoshop or any of the similar software is that you can end up with a processed photo that looks not very much like the "real" figure. I hope I didn't screw it up too much.

All the best,
Dan

I've know doubt that your figure is first class so i look forward to seeing it at Euro.Try not to spend too much time on photography, as i did . It detracted me from getting on with painting .Love the work you did on his frock coat.

I like it very much. Nice use of the blue. Try to attach a white thin sheet of paper covering the light bulbs when you take the pic. I also use two lamps in opposed directions to compensate any artificial shading.

Dan, you didn't screw a thing. Actually I use photoshop too but am not that proficient with it so my techniques are limited.I will try an experiment later with this same figure and see what comes out.

Guys thanks a lot. To be honest I feel slightly let down by my inability to take decents pics. I'm certain it's undermining the quality of my work

Stephen very nice painting mate i like this figure.

Have you tried photographing without artificial light, i take my pictures on a window ledge on an overcast day and always set the white balance manually. Works much better for me anyway.
