This is a bust I purchased back in 2018 on a whim. Recently though my granddaughter has started photography at college after getting high grades in the subject at school so I thought this might make an appropriate gift to her if I can get it right. Also, autumn is her favourite season.

The bust is a very nicely sculpted and cast piece. The camera, cap peak and a large maple leaf (which I may not use) come as separate parts

I am very rusty at this and would not be surprised if I end up stripping this a couple of times before I get it right but that doesn’t matter.

so far I have primed with Tamiya light grey spray can after a good clean and have started blocking in some colours using artist acrylics to get an idea of the colour scheme I wanted.

Now I have to decide if I am going to continue using acrylic glazing for shading etc or oils

For her cap I have, rather stupidly, taken a fancy to doing it as this.... 8995E4F4-9145-4120-8B5A-0B93397076B7.jpeg

But that may have to be simplified

Either way, it should be a fun project.

Hi there Graham

Nice piece to look at and get on your bench

Good start , nice base colours

Like the pattern you might go for .....I like the headwear without the peak ..you coukd just use putty to fill the hair ...just an idea

Look forward to seeing more on this

Happy benchtime

Thanks Nap. I did consider leaving the peak off as the hat is very much like a plumped up beret, not a lot of filling would be needed and a plain paint scheme could be used to good effect. However, the peak may hide some dodgy painting so I will have to see how it goes :ROFLMAO:

Probably calling this one done. It is a lovely bust and I may at some point strip it to try to do it better but maybe I may just leave it as is.

All done using artists acrylic mixing to get the shades I wanted to keep an autumnal colour scheme. Blending isn’t great, never had much luck blending acrylic but for my first attempt after an eighteen month break I am quite happy. As you can see, I chickened out on the pattern for the cap as it isn’t the right style (that is my excuse and I am sticking to it).

I will leave it a few days before I have another look to make up my mind if to take it further. However, the main object of the exercise was to see if I could get back into painting and, to be honest, it felt as though I had never been away.

Not up to you guys standards but I am happy and ready to take on the next one.

Hi Graham

WELL DONE for this , nice work on the clothing , if I was painting it I would add a little colour to cheeks and lips but it's great you feel the way you do about painting after this

Look forward to seeing what's next

Whatever it is ...enjoy which is why the hobby is all about

Happy benchtime

Thank you. Yes the face is pale, not quite as pale as the picture, but I didn’t want to make it too contrasty. I agree though, I could have gone a bit further. The next one will be better I hope (y)
