Hello all. It's been 11 years since I have painted a figure. A friend of mine turned me on to the site and I look forward to critiques. I need motivation to get going. Attached are two shots of the face I am doing for the "Master/Commander bust. One is the eyes and another with my first attempt at laying in the face. Pictures are not the best. I work with oils but am very tempted to give acrylics a try. Thanks much for your comments.

Looks very good to me. One thing I would say is not to emphasize the bags under the eyes too much. I have seen a number of these painted that have very dark and very prominent bags, and it makes him look like hes got the plague or something. I think yours are just fine as they are now. As an oil painter myself, and one who had tried to expand into acrylics, all I can say is "good luck", I have had little success with it.

what a start, the eyes are out of this world. Looking at this guy w/o the hat on he looks like David Morse from the show St. Elsewhere. I never noticed that before.

Thanks much for the comments and I agree, the bags under the eyes are a little much and I will back off a tad. I also thought he looks like David Morse after I got some mud on him. I think once I get back into what was once my style things will go better and maybe I can be a more prolific than one bust every 11 years. Ha!

My first thought...absolutely Morse ish...
Beautiful job on the eyes...they do look about as good as it gets. Why mess wit them?
