That's great work, but I do wonder, as has been said, if the signs are "In Period".

To me they'd look at home on a 1940's railway platform.

My 2 penneth... Lose the signs and "Dirty it up" a bit, a-la Victorian London slums.

As I said... Great work though.

Me again.

You're gonna thump me, and I wouldn't blame you TBH. :blackeye: :dead:

Not sure about the Sewer Grate either... Looks too modern.

Despite Mr Bazalgette's best efforts, I'm not sure that the slum areas would have had enclosed underground sewers with grates by this point.

More likely an open trench?

Hello Carl, I like what you have done with your base thus far. The brickwork looks great. Sometimes it's hard to know what to add to your backdrop, because you run the risk of overwhelming your figure. I like all of the suggestions from everyone so far, and I would also like to add a few. Maybe a building number, a rat close to the sewer grate, or popping his head out of it, a broken bottle. Mark's suggestion of cracks in the wall is a good one, how about some loose bricks, or cracked ones, you can add the debris from them along the bottom of your wall. Just a few Carl, that won't take away from your main theme. Best of luck with this project, it looks to be a great one. Regards, SG:)(y)(y)

Virol is the trade name for a cod liver oil and malt extract product given to children daily and probably convalescing adults. Showing my age here because we, as children were given it daily to build us up a bit, it was thick and goopy slightly sweetish but the bitterness of the malt came through. You actually couldn't taste the cod liver oil thank god, I also remember being given this at times, really foul stuff! Apparently you can still buy Virol in Holland and Barrets. THis piece of diorama is fantastic and can't wait to see the figure in his rightful place, excellent work!

Thats you really in trouble now Carl ,you have the brick bond police on to you also the sign cops and the the sewer police :( you bloody better make a good job of the figure :D

Still looks great mate (y)

Ron

PS you still aint heard from the wood Feds yet:eek:

Superb job Carl - the tin signs really stand out. Unfortunately that may be the problem - have you considered a load of faded bill posters? Victorian photographs show the walls of London smothered in them.

The set is great - just think the signs will overpower the figure.

A reward poster with his name on would be a good touch...

-Rich

Thanks again for all the help.
I can always use the fictional character trump card.
Ron, don't get me on the bond. I didn't realise the bricks weren't 1/2 & 1/2 if you know what I mean?
Thanks again folks,
Carl.(y)
