Hi all
my copy of "The Complete Bill Horan" arrived today
As I looked through the pages and pages of Bills work
I could not fail to be inspired.
The mans out put is awesome, and the standard of workmanship
is maintained throughout.
Ok so I am not familiar with some of the periods he has covered
and I know nothing about base ball (we call it rounders .....Sorry)
But I can appreciate an original and beautifully painted representation
of the fighting man.

This book is well worth its cover price although having got it I will not have a figure or another book for some time lifes a balance and has to be maintained
so my wife tells me.
Actually she looked at the pictures and said some of them look like movie stills,
recomendation or what?

Thanks Bill for putting together so much of your work Some people almost deify
great exponnents of our hobby I am not into that I just refer to Bill as
"The Guv'nor"

You are luckier than I am! Andrea Press still has not got me my copy (I am told it will arrive Monday)! Thanks for the kind comments!

Bill

Hi

I know historex are sending them out, I got mine today
(y) (y) , Outstanding work BIll, Inspiring me to look at changing the odd figure rather than doing them from box.

My copy ordered from Andrea arrived tuesday morning........had lots of time to absorb the book now. Very inspiring!

Yea Bill did the work, but he doesn't own any of his own figures!

It must be like giving birth to children and then sending them off to live with new parents. The book will be a scrapbook for Bill. (I'm picturing the scene in "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" where Clark cries watching old family movies.)

Sure Bill did the work,
But why do we build/ paint figures
I go with what Shep Paine said in an interview for
figure international "we gain the experience of working on figures"
and then we move on

To quote the great illustrator Angus Mc Bride "If you still like last years work
you are not getting any better"

As for me I need to have people like Bill around if only in book form
to set a standard I aim to reach.
I may not get there but I will enjoy trying.

I understand Geoff......however, I got there first!!!

Maybe i'll give it up soon to be reunited on Christmas Day!

I am not claiming to have the same talent as Angus Mc Bride, but I think his quote is not completely true. It would be true, if modelling were a comletely technical busyness, with no artistic creative element in it whatsoever.

Someone who is improving constantly will indeed have a lot of comments on his own previous work (this colour is a little out of balance, those shodows should have been deeper, this detail is not fine enough, ...), but regardless of that, he can still have an emotional relationship to his work. The final image still contains what he wanted to express at that moment, and if he was really sincere about this, it will still have meaning to him after many years, although he might be able to express it to a higher technical level at the moment.

Therefor, I would not be surprised if Bill likes to look at pics of his previous work from time to time again, and feels a cerain pride about it, next to having a lot of good memories about their creation, about what brought him to create it, and the time of his life when they were created.

Next to that, making that book is a work on its own, and Bill probably just wants to see the results of that work! I think it is a shame he didn't get a copy yet!

I hope to get mine from Gino on sunday, and I hope Bill has received his earlier than that.

Looking forward to checking it out!

I still waiting and hoping that it is here, out of the United States to Europe.
In the US the book is cheaper than in Europe.
Now, I am looking out the window ahaa and see the postman walking, not stopping to my door.
No it is not today.

I am counting the days, but don't know how many,

Marc

Wow, Marijn. That was extremely well put and precisely right. I couldn't have said it better myself!

Hi Bill,
I too recieved my Copy of the Book and must say it is Excellent. The Quality of Printing and Paper used is first class but I think I discovered a Typing Error !
Reffering to the Diorama of Gandamaak and how long the Project took from beginning until Completion, the Year given is 1977-78. I believe it should be 87-88
or am I wrong ?

Peter

Hello Bill,

well, I have the same experience from writing articles. I also cannot wait to see them in print! Also, when I look back at my models, I usually do so on photograph in these magazines, even though I still have all of them at home.

Just hope you got your copy by now...

Best wishes,

marijn

I finally got my copy yesterday. I think it came out very well - Andrea Press deserves a lot of credit. It's HEAVY! It feels like an encyclopedia - this due to the heavier, glossy paper they used.

I'm very pleased that Cesar Alvarez (Editor) chose to separate the figures ("give them room to breath" as he put it). It enables the viewer to appreciate each photo more fully. I was originally afraid he might cram them all in like sardines, as we so often see in hobby magazines, to reduce the number of pages/cost of production.

There are a few typographical errors, and at least one photo caption error, but as a whole it's far beyond what I imagined when it was commissioned, and I'm very pleased with the result. Hope you guys all enjoy it!!

Bill

Have you noticed how it seems to 'creak' as you flick through it? It is certainly heavy.

I'd be pleased if it were mine!!!! ;)

Congrats again Bill. A welcome addition! Glad you have your hands on a copy now.
