Hi Guys

I need some help guys, I have hit a slight problem with emulating black steel, as in ECW armour, I was goint start with the Polished Steel from Humbrol and start working in highlights and oily shadows, this is what I am not sure of....

Any ideas

Dave

Hi Dave, blackened steel doesn't really have any metallic appearance to speak of - you really can't tell it's steel underneath unless some of the finish is worn, abraded or scratched off. So for a pristine item just paint it as though it's a satin/semigloss black object; for anything that's seen some field use add any metallic touches where you think it needs it - high-wear areas.

Alternatively, working the other way, paint it as a steel object then cover it with a coat of Lamp Black or something similar and then lightly brush/rub/scratch it off (gently!); that can look really good if you do it right.
