Next up. A Victor Konov sculpt for Pegaso. My favourite French Napoleonic Officer’s uniform. General of Brigade Francois Fournier (Sarlovese). Sarlovese in brackets because it was a post-Napoleonic addition to the general’s name. White metal casting. Currently cleaning him up prior to priming.
Here are some references including the famous portrait by Gros that the figure is based on.
DESCRIPTION
Object name/Title
Title: Portrait of General Count François Fournier-Sarlovèze (1773-1827)
Other title: Full-length portrait of Baron de l'Empire General Fournier (Title of the 1812 Salon)
Description/Features
Full-length, three-quarter portrait. The model is wearing a hussar costume: a red velvet jacket embroidered with gold thread and trimmings, red trousers embroidered with gold, a yellow silk belt and a red cape. He is holding a sabre in his right hand.
Inscriptions
Inscription:
On a sheet, in the foreground, a very faded inscription: Return the place where you will have been put to the sword. (The general is shown dismissing a parliamentarian who was ordering him to surrender, while he was being attacked in Lugo by the insurgents of Galicia; Spain, 1809)
Signature:
Signed lower left: Gros.
