Hi Folks,

Here's my first scultped figure. The bonnett and gun are from an IR figure and I used a Verlinden head. I used an Andrea skeleton and Andrea sculpt putty.

Please criticise, I need all the help I can get.

Thanks,

Jon

I have to totally agree with Costas. Excellent first sculpt figure. Way to go my friend.

Very nice Jon.

I am not familiar with the period so i cannot really comment on uniform, guns etc. As a sculpture what can i say, as my friend Major stated:

"You want critisising ? ok i wish i could sculptanything half as good as yours !!!! Thats a whole figure my friend !!!!

i couldn't agree more

Hi John,

I echo what the others said: Very good sculptjob - especially for your first. I wish my first was as good as this one.

Keep up your good work.

Cheers,
Markus

Very well done, Jon! Keep up the good work! Next time - just a suggestion - let the sculptors see the figure before painting for critique purposes. I tried using the Andrea armatures and putty and hated both. Much easier to follow the approach Gary laid out - make your own armature, etc. The tools are all there in his wonderful SBS. In my opinion, Magic Sculpt or Apoxie Sculpt are both easier to work with than the Andrea putty.

Let's see some more!!!

All the best,
Dan

Jon, Great job for your first figure. Continue with what you're doing and a lot of the harder stuff will improve over time.~Gary

Now that I call a cool beginning! Your first sculpture?? Man, want to know how your next sculptures may look like! Superb!

I agree with all the sentiments already expressed this is a very good figure particularly as in my view it is more difficult to get the proportions right in a kneeling figure.
If you want a criticism I think the collar opening is too far to the side even though the head is turned to the left the collar opening must remain above the tunic buttons

You are exactly right about the collar. I'm working on a more simple conversion of a Coldstream Guardsman - and noticed the same thing. I won't make THAT mistake again. (I'll just make lots of others.)

Thanks again to all!

Jon
