The cloak I painted in Artist's oils hopefully to give me time to blend the light and shade with the base colour, I think it has worked OK.

P1110865-001.JPG I will add the stains and grime on later.

also used Artist's oils for the leather work/belts, four colours stippled on them.

I've had to have a bit of time off doing this one due to a weekend of health issues and a tank commission for the Tank Museum which I am still in the middle of, .... BUT, .... I have now had time to do a bit more. :)

The crossbow I removed the wooden trigger and replaced it with one made from lead wire that I beat with a hammer into a square section and shaped I saw on Google images. I painted the crossbow in Artist's oils over an acrylic base colour of Vallejo New Wood, which I let show thorough on the edges, the ends of the bow part still need work on.

Head and arms now fixed into place but the small belt pouch has been painted in oils and is drying.

The stone pedestal will be to last thing to do, so Nap, it should be finished for Poole.

This has come on, the painting of the armour is 1st class as is the wood on the cross bow, how was that achieved?
looks fantastic.
Many thanks Bob, the wood was done over a Vallejo New Wood acrylic base coat, then using neat Burnt Sienna Artist's oils I brushed the square section (I needed to hold the piece so I did it in 2 goes, square part then bow part) then using neat Raw Umber I applied the darker areas and then stippled the overlapping areas to blend together, finally I ran the side of a white spirit dampened brush along the edges to remove some of the paint to give the worn look. The same method I used on the bow section except the paint removal.

It is a similar method I used on leather work as on the saddle in another thread I answered asking about " painting leather "

Hope that answers your query.

You are most welcome Bob, after all that is what we are all here for, to help each other.

Thanks Nap, I must admit that I am really pleased the way the armour has turned out, and will be great to see Mr Ranger, done or not.

Many thanks Marc. just another few hours and he should be done.

Hi Geoff

Really nice work on this ..you certainly don't hang about !

Like the presentation on the base

Thanks for sharing

Nap
Many thanks Nap, this one took me quite awhile to do, but I did use quite a lot of Artist's oils on the clothing and had to wait for that to dry before continuing.

I'm pleased with the grass around the stone pedestal, something different, might have started a trend ;)

You will see him next week at Poole.

Geoff.

Really nice result, i think. Thanks for sharing, Geoff, and god luck with next your project :)

Cheers Borek :)
Hi Geoff

Looks great mate like the background , works well ......another one before the Poole show on Saturday then! ( definately won't have the ranger finished .....details taking longer! )

Tha now for sharing

Nap

Thanks Borek and Nap. I really like him with the background, and yes he will be at Poole. Shame about the Ranger but never mind, no point in rushing and spoiling him.
