Hi! This is my first time posting on planetFigure (but I've been stalking around for a while now:p ), and also my first time trying to sculpt anything/playing with super sculpey (probably should have tried firm though), so your feedback is very important for my progress!

I'm currently attempting to make a figure of Boromir using my spare time. (I own the Sideshow son of Gondor version and the Knight Models one by our Mortimer, but I'm not having much luck finding a smily/laughing version, so I've decided to give it a try myself...) Right now I feel I'm losing my distance since I see it everyday on my desk, so I'm wondering if you guys could help me figure out what needs to be improved! (At the point the hair is just there to see the effect, will strip it off before baking)

Thank you so much!

Looks really good I'm no sculptor myself and envy you guys who can sculpt but is the mouth a little wide not much at all but that's what first struck me :cautious:

Im not a LOTR fan, as such, so can't comment on how close it looks to the character, but for a first sculpt, I cant see much wrong with it, so far (maybe, as Steve above says, the mouth's a tad wide)!
Fantastic effort!

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah Sean Bean does have a rather wide smile but I guess I have exaggerated it a bit too much! :p

It's not a huge amount and he does have a wide smile just a fraction off the upper area I'd say

Steve

Nice job for a first attempt at sculpting (y) You set yourself a tough one as a first subject - a wide smile like this is something that seasoned sculptors regularly avoid, hence the dearth of them in commercially-available figures and head sets!

I'm not going to comment on the likeness because there's so much involved in that, and we'd have to be comparing directly to a photo of the subject anyway. But on the mouth, this isn't a touch wide, it's well within the variation you'd see in people. One thing that is contributing to this impression though is the teeth; the arc the teeth form is far narrower than the jaw area itself.

...(probably should have tried firm though)...
Try popping the sculpt in the fridge for a couple of hours.

When I saw the first photo at the top of your post, the full frontal face shot, my first thought was "Hey, that looks like Sean Bean" so you must be doing something right! (y);).......The 3/4 and profile shots don't make it look so obvious IMO but since I have yet to try sculpting a head of any sort, you're way in front of me :notworthy:

Richard.
