In my view Tommy's war has an outstanding price/quality ratio, even though I personally always fight fiercely with strings, so I would not particularly like to have to create one!

I fear that given the name of the range the response to my next question will be no, but I will still give it a try: can we hope to see some non British figures (what about an Italian ardito? Yeahhhh right, I know...)
Maybe I have gone OT, but I have seen Darren's "general" respinse and could not resist...
ciao,
Alessandro

Hi Steve

I'll speak to Günther and we'll make the bases for the box art plain, hopefully that will stop any misunderstandings.

Kind regards

Darren
I wouldn't because you'll get, nicely painted but the groundwork's boring.
I think everyone is capable of stretching a bit of sprue, and chopping up a bit of foil.
I asked Darren if I could buy a SMLE, he said no, but I'll send you a couple.
As for value for money, you could always give them away,
Carl.(y)

Darren.
When I started this thread I was not particularly singling out Tommys War figures it was just reading the review that triggered my brain cells. I have never purchased one of your figures because they are not my thing. However, I do make comment on your excellent figures on the forum and for the money they are superb value. I also made it clear that presenting your work in the best possible light painted by an expert painter was the correct thing to do. I have on a number of occasions been critical of new figures that have been presented or painted badly. So please don't take this thread as a pop at you and if I have offended you I apologise. I was not questioning your credibility or suggesting you were deliberately misleading purchasers.

I think Darren's comment about honesty is a response to my post "Yes, it would definitely be nicer (or perhaps more honest) if the box art only showed what comes in the kit." I did not mean to imply that you were dishonest in anyway and I apologize. Clearly I did not choose my words well. The point I was trying to make was that the majority of companies out there often use groundwork for the box art that is different from what comes with the figure. When I first got into this hobby I found that to be misleading. After I'd bought a few kits I realized that was just the way it worked. Now I don't expect anything but the most basic groundwork when I buy a kit, no matter what is on the box or website. I understand that you are just trying to sell your kits and a nice picture is going to help. In a perfect world I think it would be nice to see the actual groundwork that comes with the figure. Of course if you don't do your best to make the figure look good, add nice ground work, etc you'll be at a disadvantage to someone else who does. So it's highly doubtful anything will change. That is what I was trying to say. I wasn't trying to make a statement about your company but the hobby as a whole. And I certainly didn't intend to call you or your company dishonest. Again, I'm sorry for my poor choice of words.

I have just read through this thread and feel a bit disappointed for Darren.

I know first hand the effort And quality of product that Darren and The Tommys War range puts out. I personally think for 12 UK pounds they are superb value,if a resin base is in such demand that most(I included) would probably just bin,is it worth including and upping the price ?!! I don't think so ... Most 54mm single figure kits come in at £20 plus .... (with no base)

Regards slings and cigarettes, look at the current range 35 th included, I have NEVER had material in a box to make slings with, yes sometimes they can be moulded/sculpted in situ if the pose allows but separate weapons in this scale or 35th say Alpine,Mantus etc do not include slings or lead foil/etch etc .... And for £12 I don't think you can pick fault at all !

If you cannot make a cigarette or gun sling then are you able to complete the figure anyway ?! Some may say its principle it's on the box,I say include the etch then,a resin base and charge double !! I'd sooner pay 12£ for a single 54mm figure sculpted by Nino than 20£ + for a bit of foil and a resin base that dictates base size etc that then gets binned anyway !!

We should be happy and great full such awesome figures exist in this scale at such a low price of this period. Where's all the positives ? They far out way the negs of a ciggarette not included etc LOL !

And to be honest I prefer to see a figure given some context in the form of a simple base ... I wouldn't expect to get a tiger turret when buying a German panzer figure.

I say keep doing what you are doing Darren its a great product, great range, period, quality and sculpt and many out there are gratefull for such ... Sure put in a base then, foil and a cigarette but charge more and bring them in line with other 54mm single figure kits.

Still want a sling included ?

Maybe add a disclaimer to the box and website stating base work not included for those that expect the earth : )

Darren's passionate about this range and I know he puts everything in, hence it's concerning to read some of the posts given how well they are priced.

Moan over : )

No offence caused at all Ken (except perhaps to the comment by someone else that inferred I was being dishonest).

Bailey, apology accepted. I put a lot in to Tommy's War and it hurts when I read that I might be in some way misleading anyone. Thats certainly not my intention.

Anyway, I'm off to look at pictures of kittens as I'm being oversensitive.

And not to put a TW54003 up my bum Helm ;)

I tell you its true, it was a 'friend'

I'm too busy in my counting room, situated on the West Wing of my estate, counting all my gold. I'm off this evening on my unicorn to play golf with Mark Zuckenberg and Bill Gates.

 I see no need to change your box art style !! I like it that way ! And besides, that is how I learned that the Fusiliers saw action on a railway bridge, and the box top photo is a good example of how to model that. Please don't change anything !

Congratulations on the Tommy's War rage, by the way, I received mine last friday and I'm very pleased ! Thanks !

Here is my lira,s worth;)
Good box art sells figures, great box art sells more figures especially if the work underneath is not so great ,but it should be as is in the box.
Groundwork is where things can get confusing if it is painted up also , perhaps a picture aka stormtroopers style also would make things a little clearer to
what you actually get.

Having said this these are great little figures and for the cash you won't do any better.
I've paid more for bruschetta " tomato on toast" in a my favorite Italian bistro. ( and nowhere as dangerous as a pack of fags Brian)

I have all the characters of Tommy's War and I'm thrilled.
The boxart photo to me is more of an idea on what to do.

One way to maintain quality and continue to show that it contains only what the box would simply reflect the colorful figure, the Groundwork in black / white.

Cheers

Hendryk

That would be truly tragic.

I find your settings inspiring and think you have presented an excellent defense to the mild criticism that has been put forward, not that its needed. I would suggest putting a little warning on the box saying its the "figure only" to please the lawyers and then move on to providing your excellent figures with the excellent little scenes. A plain base and box art will impact sales adversely I think.

If you are really concerned that the majority are thinking "where's my fence?" I would suggest you poll the audience before you leap as I don't think this is a majority view. On my first TW figure I cut the rifle sling from printer paper in 20 seconds....how hard can that be?

Thanks

Colin

Since the figures we sell are un-assembled and un-painted,
why not have a pic of a bunch of bare resin parts for boxart?

Yeah, let's keep it real!

"I aspire to be as good as Günther or Carl, in my heart I know I probably won't ever get to their standard, but part of me believes I am the next Euro Militaire gold medalist."

I hear you Darren.(y) Rest assured, the quality of the sculpting and casting of your figures will see them win numerous Gold medals at competitions around the world. Your honesty and willingness to admit fault and recognise the need to listen to your customers will ensure you a long life in this business and many loyal customers.:joyful:

I for one tend to see box art for what it is (advertising and promotion) and not take it too literally. I rarely if ever use the base supplied with the kit and I can make my own slings and cigarettes if I need to.

Keep up the great work.

And how about doing some ANZAC's!!!!!:woot:
