British Middlesex Regiment - D Day

Hi All, Time for my first post.

This is my first ever bust and first time ever using Acrylics.

I hadn't planned at the start to take photos through each step so the earlier stages haven't been captured.

The kit is white metal from F M Beneito Miniatures. Not 100% on the scale as it doesn't say, but it looks around a 1/10. The fit was pretty good and only minimal filling was required.

It has been a bit of trial and error and I ended up stripping the whole thing a couple of times, but I'm reasonably happy with progress to date. There's still a bit of work to do and hopefully the resin base from the UK will arrive shortly.

As i'm new to posting on this site i'm not sure what information is good to post so please ask if you have any questions or want further details.

Looks great nice work on the arm insignia .

I remember this bust now regarding the way its cut at the back ...I believe there was also a bugler ( I think from Spanish Civil War)

Thanks for your words of encouragement, they are very much appreciated.

I have to admit that it took a week to start painting after priming the parts. Seeing the amazing paint jobs and at the same time reading about acrylic horror stories for some made me a little apprehensive. However, after lots of research on here and purchasing a SBS book by Andrea Color I took the plunge. The model in the pictures is the third attempt, so just like everything else it's all about practice, practice, practice.

It may be the light but to me the Div sign is showing blue and red when it should be black and red. If you have painted it black please accept my apologies.

Thanks for your feedback on the colour. The painting instructions showed it as a dark blue. I decided to make it quite a faded bark blue so it didn't stand out.

I'll give it some black washes to give it a more depth.

It's a brave thing to do putting your first piece in front of experienced modellers particularly when you re alsi using a new medium.

Thanks for your kind words. I guess there's no better place to show your first piece of work as all feedback is good.

I'm here to share just like everyone else and in return I can hopefully enhance my own skills through the demonstrated expertise on here.

Mark, it is a really stark black as it needs to stand out. Sorry to be pedantic, but I wore it. As Paul says it is a brave action to show your first model on here. I hate to think how my first attempts showed out. Paul will probably say that my painting has not improved at all. He decided to remind me at a show on Sunday that I am supposed to paint with the hairy end of the brush.

Well you can't get a better source than from someone that wore it. Thanks for confirming, I will get that changed.

I don't mind putting up my first effort for feedback / critique, it's a great way to learn or maybe I've just developed a thick skin (I knew my past life with the ex-wife would come in handy one day ).

Unfortunately we don't have a great deal of shows in NZ, which is a shame. I have a trip back to the UK planned for this Christmas / New Year but I don't think they'll be many, if any shows on. Would love to do Euro militaire but it's a long way to come for a weekend.

I used a colour called Necron Compound product from the Citadel dry range. I used a little piece of sponge to apply. It's best to dab it a few times first to remove most of the paint. Then it was lightly dabbed onto the helmet.

Following on from the great feedback on a scale question posted this week and putting the bust side by side with the 1/10 new project. I can confidently say that this bust is actually 90mm not the 1/10 as I first assumed.

Not even a week has passed since joining and I've learn't a lot already!!

This looks very good , an old bust in Whitemetal I believe , like the badges , very nicely done and the helmet ,

if I may say the rifle sling looks too far away from the epaulette , my view is it would sit lower with the weight of the weapon.

This has a certain charm the way it's been produced at an angle , certainly would paint this one .

Nice uniform colour as well and the pipe contents

Thanks Nap. Yes you're right it is a white metal kit. I got it from Historex as a gift when an order went missing.

I know what you mean about the shoulder sling now you mention it. It was cast in a way that that was the only way to fit it. If I had more experience and also with white metal then I could have looked to modify it. Let's just say that the moment of sculpture was caught as it was being thrown over his shoulder and it hadn't come to rest..lol
