I recently attended the FENS model figure show in Ely and picked up Gordon’s latest Para,it depicts a para with his M4 Mark 1 rifle raised and taking aim in the heat of battle.
This half figure won’t be for the faint hearted modelers out there, there is an awful lot to paint, some of which I did when attached to the figure,I couldn’t risk damaging the paintwork if I’d painted it before attachment, careful thinking out is required here, straps also have to be added in places as well.
The piece comes with 2 heads, one with the helmet or the beret version,I prefer the beret version myself so this was the option I went for.
All the under painting was done in acrylics and finished in oils, metallics were from the GW range.
Having studied lots of photographs of the battle of Arnhem,I noted there was a lot of quite modern looking houses as well as the old European Dutch style, gardens were also featured and a lot of house to house fighting was done in the houses and gardens as the paras tried to gain ground in the struggle to reach the main Arnhem bridge.
I wanted my para to be on a corner of such a scene picking out an unfortunate target while at the same time using the house corner for protection.
The half figure is produced by Gordon Mitchell at RDG miniatures,he has some excellent paras in his range, highly recommended for anyone interested in the Market Garden Campaign.
I just need to add the small ball for the bolt action on the rifle now.

Brilliant, really like how you've added the camouflage paint/burnt cork to the face. The pattern on the Dennison is great as well as the texture on the webbing, love it.

Cheers Simon
