Hello everybody,
Finally after a long absence through the forums,I’ve got a new figure to present you . Fortunately this is a recent project that makes me glad to show it with all the steps of the work.
The figure represents Nicholas II the last tsar of Russia till his abdication when he named his brother, Grand Duke Mikhail as the next Emperor of all the Russias, but the Duke declined to accept the throne ending this way the dynasty of Romanóv.
The tsar is represented here dressed in the uniform of an officer cavalry.
The first step showed here I made just a fiction to have an idea about the entire figure.

See you soon

Nice start to a very interesting bust Paul, you may want to bring the upper eye lids down to a more horizontal position as at the moment they seem a bit too arched compared to the portrait.

Nice work so far Paul. Looking forward to seeing more! Isn't this the Michael Miniatures piece? It's already very high on my wish list!!!!!!

Hello again,
In the second step I have to specify that I changed the materials.

"you may want to bring the upper eye lids down to a more horizontal position as at the moment they seem a bit too arched compared to the portrait"

As you've seen before I started with just a fiction, the head is a copy in milliput from another bust.Well,I turned the work in SuperSculpey Firm thinking that this material will allowed me to mould better the texture of the beard in the next future.First of all I wanted to assure myself about a good anathomical base. The eagle and the helmet are modeled separatelly as they are accesories
with very accurated shapes.

Hi!

The Unit, which wore this uniform, was called "Horse Guards regiment", founded in 1721 as "Kronschloty Dragoons Regiment". 1725 this unit was named as "Life Regiment", 1750 it was as "horse guards" incorporated into the guards.

Since 1894, Tsar Nicolas II. was Chief of this regiment.

But on the Photo, you show us upon on the right, there is not the tsar to seen, but Grandduke G. von Leuchtenburg.

He wars the red "supreveste", that was worn only for palace-duty and only by the men of the 1st and 4th squadron of this unit.

Regards

Hello again,
I'm back here for the third step. First of all, you can see the change of the beard. Although the way it looked before seemed to me pretty particular, I was thinking that it was not quite specific to this character. I took as a guide another image that was the photo from 1898 in which you can appreciate how neatly his beard is.

This way the volume of the beard looks less expressive but it helps more to achieve the resemblance. However, the upper eyelids, which are delicate details, are missing, and in them the whole expression is focused. But I left this application for the next step.

See you very soon

Hello, I'm back to finish the presentation of the figure. I added a photo of the casting parts and also some pictures I used to prepare for the work. Concerning the beard, last time I still wasn’t satisfied, so I’ve changed it once again. The materials that I used to finish the figure were: Milliput yellow-grey and a mixture between this milliput and greenstuff. The bust is made at 1/9 scale. It will be commercialized by the Michael Miniatures company which you can find it at this link http://michaelminiatures.com/
You can vote the figure on coolminiornot at this link :
