I've noticed lately that there has been a surge of new members whose main or indeed only contribution to the forum is looking to buy kits.
Mark (Tubby Nuts) has made a valid point about the lack of content and information from some purchasers and his understandable reluctance to sell to unknown members.
It strikes me as logical that before anyone can buy or sell they should have established a presence on the site and at least their proper name and whereabouts on the personal details area.
Now I'm not for a second suggesting that anyone here is at it, and I personally don't know anyone here who has been ripped off by another member (and I know a lot of the guys here).
I just think it would be a better system.

I agree 100% Del.
I personally wont buy anything from persons offering to sell on this or any other site
unless theyare well known and have been around longer than 5 mins,.
Yes I might loose out on some things I want but so be it,

What was it you used to hear in the markets " Im not here today and gone tomorrow. Im here today and gone when its sold"
Mick

My view is that members should have to declare their country and location on joining. Why would anyone object to this? This would also encourage members in similar locations to make contact if they wished to.

Keith

Agree with Keith on this , and perhaps there real name as well instead of a number and a couple of letters . If you reside on the dark side of the moon you lose the right to sell .
" there you are Del I have mentioned the band":D

I agree with all of the above, but what stops an unscrupulous buyer from using false info regarding country and location when joining?

Gary

Fair point Gary, that's why I proposed a site presence.
This should relate to activity across a range of forums for say 4 months, not someone accumulating 80 posts 78 of them in Market and Commissions.

Hi Guys ,

DEL raises a valid point here , sone appear to join without a contribution to the actual forum , I agree a 100 posts would be a good minimum , will pm all mods and admin

There is also a thread from admin about selling you might want to look at which has guidelines

You may recall sometime ago I instigated a Poll "Should Sellers etc be PF Supporters, " to be able to sell on this site. This was felt to go to far although it did have some support . So ensuring that any proposed seller contributes to the forum as stated above I feel is fair and right.

If you want the privilege to sell on here at least support the forum , and the same goes for advertising . Nine quid a year ain't gonna break the bank , worth it just to dodge the dodgy adverts and you can pm pictures ,also you get a gold star .

PF supporter might even help you if you step out of line a bit " who knows" :)
Some little things help in life like precise time keeping at work ; kept me in a job many a time " cant sack him he is to reliable just put up with his shit":D

Hi Mick ,

The idea is that if you wish to sell in addition to the forum contribution you also become a Planet Figure Supporter is a good one

Just a thought

Kev
Please find link to above Poll. What gets to me is 'Bod' turns up on forum wants to sell a load of stuff, sells stuff and never seen or heard again. With no hello good by kiss me arse or anything. That I think is what gets to people,
If you want to use the forum and its members you should support the forum. This can be done in many ways, Becoming a PF member, Giving help and advice, and supporting other members with modelling and projects.

Oh this brings back recent memories for me.

Although I could have phrased the question better at the time,
I was trying to find out where a "new member" was from so I didn't end up making an offer to someone on the other side of the world with the shipping and customs to add on.
Outrage ensued, from the gentleman who was already known to one of us.
If some form of ruling had been in place I wouldn't have felt awkward, and I could probably not have caused him offence either,.
In a similar vein is it possible to ask those who do it not to make a different thread in MKT & COMM for each item they offer, there is no need.

All the best

Paul.

My concern was that most transactions are done via, 'PayPal', which generally favours the buyer over the seller, if it comes to a dispute. We know PayPal are nightmare to contact to get things resolved.

As Del, indicated there is a lot of trust associated with selling/buying between members on this forum. So naturally my suspicious mind kicks in when selling to someone with no track record, and limited or non-existent profile. This is why I made the comment that I did. As I too noticed and increase in new members solely buying.

However, the same goes for buying to a similar extent. I would much rather buy from someone whom I know! and is reliable and honest about the individual kit.

Even though I have been a member of PF for quite a few years I still consider myself somewhat of a "fringe" modeller, enjoying the splendid contributions of others far more talented than I and throwing in the odd remark when I feel it's appropriate.
I have used the market for selling with generally good results and would happily continue to do so if restrictions such as PF membership or even "sellers fee's" were introduced...why shouldn't PF get something out of it, there's no such thing in life as a free lunch!
(Ducks back behind the parapet...:D)
