WIP Captain A

I picked up this Universal Soldier/(totally not) Captain America model a few months ago, and I've started the first few steps on it. I cleaned it and primed it gray, and now I'm starting the acrylic undercoat. I'm still debating whether or not I'll use oils here, but we'll see as I move forward with the project.



And just a little more for the leather jacket. It won't stay this red color, but I wanted something warmer to start out with.



Just a small edit: the pictures are a tad big, so I changed to thumbnail sizes.

Is this 1/35th scale? Been thinking about grabbing one of these or the new 1/24th, leaning toward 35th so I can incorporate some stuff into a scene. Will be keeping an eye on this.

It is 1/35. It's very highly detailed for being in such a small size though, so I bet it would work well as part of a whole scene.

Thanks Peter, from what I could tell it did seem to be quite detailed but renders and box art can be a bit deceiving at times. Good to see it on someone's bench.

Here's a quick update on Captain A. I finished this much of the leather jacket last night, but the back still needs some work. I'm also realizing, now that I've seen the close-up, that the blue on the suit is pretty patchy. That'll get a little more work next time too.

I can see why. Leather doesn't really fold the way that it does on the sleeves of the model, so it makes it look like cloth more than anything else. It certainly doesn't help the realism. It's a pretty small flaw on an otherwise great model, though.

I was able to make a little more progress on the captain a couple days ago. The jacket and the suit underneath are done now, and if you look closely you can see his head in the background too.



Unfortunately, I messed up the shield a bit and made the stripes too wide, so it looks a bit silly right now. Still, progress is progress, I guess.

I think trying to freehand the stripes on the shield was a mistake. It doesn't look terrible from far away, but close up like this, everything looks so crooked. I will probably have to keep working on it.

In the pics of shield ( 2 lines and 4 ) the paint looks thick ?

Close up pics can be scary for sure ......personally I think I would clean the shield off , reprime , repaint the White then using low tack modellers tape line up the pattern then paint the red stripes ...just a suggestion

As much as I hate to admit defeat, I think you're right. Doing something like that without a guide was beyond me. I like the idea of doing the red over the white though. I did them side by side over a grey primer, but it looks thick because I tried to correct mistakes a few too many times.

No problem ..it's all a learning curve when we pick brushes up !!! ....a white primer might be worth going for as well
