Hi guys,
I created this vignette inspired by the famous WW2 Normandy picture of an
“American paratrooper James Flanagan (2nd Platoon, C Co, 1-502nd PIR), among the first to make successful landings on the continent, holding a Nazi flag captured in a village assault. Marmion Farm at Ravenoville, Utah Beach, France. 6 June 1944.” Wikipedia.
My idea was to make the guy as exact as
possible to the real one, but coming out in 3D from the picture: so it is all painted in B&W.
Over a base of 1:32 multipose spare parts, I worked with putty all para uniform and the equipment details etc. For the helmet net I used a lady leg sock. I didnt have any head smiling face so I had to work it over to make him happy...The flag was made of aluminium metal.
I painted all with acrylic
I’ll appreciate and welcome all your comments

Hi Adriano

Nice to see your post and a very clever idea , it works well making the actual picture almost 3D

Good work on the smile as well and nice use of that lady's stocking as well ..LOL

All credit to you for the B & W painting ....again works well

Thank you for sharing

Why not enter something into FOTM as well

Happy benchtime

Nap

Had a bit of a play ...

Nice idea, works well and the B/W painting is an inspiration (and a challenge)... well done (y)

Isn't he wearing glasses/goggles in the photo?

Also, the original flag has clear creases in it where it's been folded (Flanagan states that it had been hanging up in a German command post... must just have been brand new?).

An interview with the man himself: https://www.historynet.com/world-wa...rborne-trooper-james-flanagan-about-d-day.htm

In this he states that the helmet lying at his feet belonged to a German killed in the attack (easy to add).

There's a colourised version of the photo here: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/f6/89/7c/f6897c06c28cbfa0d9801dd1e19b646f.jpg

Thought so (the link is the same article I linked to).

Never done it myself, but I read of cutting out thin cellulose/plastic sheet (as used in so much packaging) then painting the edges to simulate the frame. May give it a go myself on a 1/35 vignette I'm aiming to do soon. and see how it turns out.

For larger scales I've heard of making the frames out of fuse wire then adding a blob of clear glue for the lens: seems it forms a meniscus, so it looks like a real lens rather than flat.

Hi thank you very much to you all for the nice comments to :

Chazman, Riche, Chris Oldfield, Nap thaks for your coulored version,
To Neilw and arj Andrew.
About the lens the orginal picture I had looks he had possibly ( not very clear) lens.
In any case they are too small to tray and maybe mess the face...
Regards
Adriano
