My wife bought me this for Christmas 2019 and I’ve been working on it on & off since the lockdown period. It’s a lovely model, very impressive indeed. And one of my modelling targets for this year is to finally get it finished.

But as nice as it is, I think Hugo left out one important element, and that is a Roman opponent on the ground.

Can anyone suggest one that might work with it for that period, which seems to be very underrepresented compared with the early Empire period?

Just to be clear, I can't sculpt to save my life (so creating my own isn't an option) but I could probably manage a minor tweak of a stock figure.

The scale is 75mm.

Steve,
I think this a "let your imagination take its course" sculpture that should be taken as it is . If you add one other figure the piece will ask for more.

Hi Steve,
Don't know if this fits the period or who makes it, would something like this work? cheers

Hi Richie, that looks like an EK Castings piece to me mate, in which case it would be a 54mm so too small.

I actually have a couple of candidates in my stash, but I'm not sure about the time period. I'm by no means a rivet counter but that said, I still wouldn't want to get the thing finished, only for someone who knows far more about Republican Romans than I do to then come along and tell me that I'm out by a century or two with the guy(s) on the ground .

These are my stash options (both Irbis):

Hi Steve,
That figure I put up was a 75mm figure from the Punic wars. Roman Legionary Second Punic War 218-201 BC 75mm 1/24 Scale Unpainted Tin Figure | eBay

Steve, you might want to have a look at Mercury Models, who do a range of 75mm Romans. Himini, also, but not sure of the right period.

Fine figures Alan and I have a few of them but none work for the period.

Agree. I asked Hugo if he would release some Romans for this, or even make his figs from the King Mithridates dios available as they would be quite appropriate for this. No joy...
These figs, I can see the one guy getting skewered from the elephant riders for sure!
