My personal experience in this arena aligns with Bailey.
I happen to believe that crowdfunding is an EXCELLENT vehicle for the figure industry when:
1) The vendor is well known and well respected
2) The subject base is mainstream and well-crafted
3) The offering is simple and uncomplicated ( Figures, as opposed to gaming systems )
4) The campaign creates opportunity to attain a single figure or sub-set without having to buy an
entire system or game
I think there is a simple partnership that CAN take place in which "we" help our best suppliers
attain critical mass / demand early in a process to help "them" produce something they are LIKELY
to commit to produce regardless. In exchange, we are offered a discount and possibly an early delivery
for our assistance.
I think Michael Kontraros' campaigns are an excellent example of how the process can work.
Like Bailey, I have done a bunch of these ( mostly figures ) and my only complaint is that the most
common annoyance is delay.
I AM jumping in on this one because:
- the figures are awesome
- the vendor is respected and committed ( by virtue of offering them direct )
- the campaign clearly will succeed
- My inner child wants them asap !
On a side note, although it's buggering up the offering on the thread , I DO appreciate the lively debate on
the crowdfunding topic. We are at our best when we are looking out for each other.
