Thanks everyone, it's nice to know that I have others who support us few ladies who enjoy this hobby. It can feel very male orientated at times especially when I try to do figures that are not military.

Honestly Nicola, I do wish you would try flats, there are so many non military subjects that you would be spoilt for choice!
Best wishes, Gary.

Nicola, by your own admission, you feel that this 'Hobby', is 'Male', dominated. .. Which, yes in fairness, it is! and that it is a damn shame! ..However, the counter question, would be, why is this so ?? ..anyone can pick up a brush, and start painting if they feel that this is what they want to do. So like yourself, you have done such a thing which is to be applauded, However,.. Boys will be boys ! . 'Cops vs Robbers', Cowboys & Indians etc. even in old age, hence the usual military pieces. :ROFLMAO: However, we do have, Marina, and Zermina. on here, who's work, generally blows us mere mortals into the ground. :D:wideyed:

Regards,

Mark

Hi Nicola, you are right it is a male dominated hobby in terms of numbers, less so in terms of quality.
Over the years there have been a disproportionate level of top women painters given the relatively small number in the hobby.
In the recent past there was Gill Watkin-John and more recently Catherine Cesario-Poisson and Marion Ebensperger-Ball both are regular gold and BoS winners in major shows. There's not an award event for Fantasy work that doesn't regularly feature female winners. Added to the female painters from Russian Vityaz amongst many others theres no shortage of top class talent and thats just Europe.

Congrats on the award Nicola. I agree with the comments above. A real pity that there aren't more women in the hobby because we have some top-notch female painters on here. But they are a very small minority of the total membership.

We need to see more kids coming through as well.

How right you are about the kids!! In our club ( BMSS Northants branch ), we have only one junior and he's got a beard and mustache!
Gary.

So, can we expect well known members to attend the Perth show in drag in the future? Being scottish, youre almost there already. :D

And congratulations to the prize, Nicola.

Cheers
