This was a botch up job so decided to remove paint and start again.

I used a cleaning medium called liquid reamer which is for deep cleaning of air brush ; a very potent stuff but gives fantastic results of removing paint .
only downside is it stinks and you cannot use it on acrylic figures .

IMG_0924.JPG The figure had a primer of halfords , under coat of tamiya and then oils on top ; cleaned it off no problem and retained the detail.
Just used a soft brush and toothbrush , washed off with soap and water .

there should be an equivalent product as it is used to unblock paint clogged needle assembly in airbrushes especially solvent based paints .

NB you do need to open a window when in use as it will give you a very sore head if you breath in the vapour , i just squirt a little into a bottle cap and apply with a soft brush

The method I use couldn't be simpler ...... Dettol Original.
I've used it lots of times for both white metal and resin figures with equal success. One note of caution,I've never left pieces longer than 24hrs
so I can't unequivocally claim that it doesn't have an effect on the surface if left longer.

Place part in suitably sized tumbler or jar. Pour over enough Dettol to cover and leave for 24hours.
It'll look as if nothing much has happened but when you remove the parts the paint should wash off under a warm tap.
As usual a quick brushing with an old toothbrush should deal with any hard to reach bits.
If you're careful removing the parts, the Dettol should be clear so just pour back into the bottle (I've been using the same stuff for over 3 years).
Pros:
Relatively cheap
Reuseable
Availability
Smells clean
Pretty safe (assuming no-one plans to drink it)
Cons:
The wife is prone to using it for weird things like washing the kitchen floor, takes all sorts :D

I swear by Wilko's own brand paint remover. A bottle should last a lifetime - unless you're that bad at doing figures.....

It's also great for cleaning brushes.

Derek - good tip, does it work on all types of paint - acrylic, enamel, oil etc ?
Cheers

Mat, I've used it on all types of paint in various combinations with equal success.
Only thing that needs a bit more care is when rinsing off metallics.
Sometimes the water 'resets' the metal paint, to avoid this I reverse the cleaning process.
I brush the paint off onto a sheet of paper and then rinse it.
