I’ve decided to stick the TV / Film scene for this latest project I’m working on,this latest piece from Gordon Mitchell represents the film character Colonel Nicholson from the film Bridge on the River Kwai played by Sir Alec Guinness.
the piece is cast in 1/9th scale grey resin and comes in three parts, the head and torso and officers cap,it may have been 2 parts,I can’t remember now.
this completed bust is only part of this project as I’m working on a backdrop for the bust, which I will post up shortly.
The likeness to Alec Guinness is quite good and well cast, all it needs is painting.
In some shots in the film Col Nicholson is seen with his swagger stick and rear cap flap,I decided I wanted to add these to the piece, just to give it a slight edge.
All the painting was done using oils over acrylics with some dark star metallics also used.
A very enjoyable piece to paint,I’ve always loved the film ever since I saw it as a young lad,it was one of my late fathers favourite films.
I was going to hold back on this piece in case the sculptor had any plans to do Col Saito, but having spoke to Gordon about this, there was no future plans for a Saito to be done,so I just decided to go ahead with the subject.

The bust is available from Gordon at a very good price.

thank you Brian
