Steve

Hi Steve - Thank you:)

Hi Roger - Hello mate thanks for looking in, you can't have had much time with all that laying on deck and sunbathing.;) Are you going to try and make one of our club nights on your next shore leave? I will e-mail you the up and coming dates and agenda if you want.

Hi Dan - Thanks for looking mate very much appreciated.:)

Hi Colin - Mate, I can assure you after extensive research:rolleyes::whistle: on the commissariat forage cap, I found that this version - the "Doilie" forage was introduced on the 22nd January 1879. It was shortly withdrawn on the 23rd January 1879 as homage to Commissary Dalton.:ROFLMAO: (y) Thanks for the support brother, hope to have it finished and undercoated this weekend if all goes to plan. How's your mini epic coming along by the way?

cheers
Richie

Hi Ron, Steve & Nap,
Thanks for looking in lads and the support.

Nap do you have any good reference photo's in your library for the Victorian forage cap as worn by the commissariat department, so I can see the detail?

Yes I'd like to come up Richie. I picked up a flyer at S&L with the dates and agenda but you'd better email them just incase it's been "tidied" away while I've been away, cheers.

Nice pics Kev, top right is Green Howards if I'm not mistaken.

Roger.

That's some in depth research... well done. Myself, I haven't been near the bench in a couple of weeks... Doing a bunch of spring renovations on the old dump. The paint goes on the kitchen tomorrow so hopefully by Monday I'LL BE FREE!!!!!

Keep up the great work

Colin

Hi All,
I am just about at the finishing post with my conversion/sculpting, I still have to sort an ammunition pouch and fit everything together properly as the head, arms and rifle are only blue tacked. So there will be a little bit of filling to do when put together.
For me it's been really rewarding and sometimes testing working on this conversion, but most things fell into place pretty well and my standard or swearing has improved no end:censored: . I take my hat off to you sculptors. I don't know when the brushes will come out as I'm wanting to convert two other figures.
Hope you like how it's turned out, thanks for all the help, support and encouragement it's really helped to spur me on with my latest two projects.

Nap thanks for the photo's mate, if I'm stuck in the future I will e-mail you direct.(y)
cheers

Hi Richie,
You really are the master of the fine detail Mate.
Amazing work here with a few lengths of fuse wire and a bit of lead sheet.
Very professional finish in all areas Mate, I love it.
Cheers,
Keith

Beautifully executed conversion,Richie.....great looking piece, and I'm sure it'll be even better painted.
Thanks for the info as well, mate.
I remember very well when I first read the diaries of the Rorkes Drift VC winners and how much their stories and their own character differed from the cinematic accounts.

Hi Keith/Mark,
On this one I actually resculpted the jacket front first with milliput as Steve Readdie pointed out one or two possible flaws and was right on the money again. The jacket needed to fall over the belt slightly which it did not do after I ground off all the detail. I then used the fuse wire and lead sheets for all the braid and facings but the drop loops and button at the end of the braid is from milliput.

Thank you so much lads for the continued support and comments, I will take that as high praise indeed from two people who's skill and work I admire. I am actually looking forward to finishing the groundwork and starting the painting, but not until I've got my other figures ready.

Mark as much as I love Zulu (the hairs still stand up on the back of my neck) and Zulu Dawn, I wish someone like Speilberg or Peter Jackson would do a remake or better still a mini series that is totally accurate especially where the characters are concerned such as Dalton and highlights all the other battles not only Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana.

Thanks again lads, your comments and support is very much appreciated and keeps my enthusiasm burning bright.
cheers

Hi Richie,
I totally agree with your comments here. Like you I love the two films but to show the characters as they really were in these wars would do justice to their families and we miniaturists. May be an obscure 'documentary ' of this type would not put bums on seats in the cinema.

As for your work Mate, it's moving along at pace in the skills department and all I am doing is sharing my solutions with whoever will listen and praising good work. In any case you have put me on the right track more than a few times. So give and take in all things.
All the best,
Keith

Hi Richie late picking up on this one, excellent conversion work and looking forward to seeing it painted.

Cheers Ken

Hi Ken,
Better late than never mate, thank you for looking in. I will take that as high praise indeed from from someone of your putty pushing skill. Some of the tips you imparted on me are working out OK.
I've got to convert my own figures, it does not matter how much I goad you sculptors on here or in person you are not taking the chimps bait. I do recognise this is a bit of a niche market for you and other things sell better and are more in vogue, but it won't stop me trying.:arghh:
cheers
Richie

Hi All,
A small update, I have decided to get cracking with this again as I'm off work:D. I have decided to do the majority in oils as blending the blue should be far easier for me. I've put some work into the cap, face, tunic, belt, boots and trousers.... all still wet so tomorrow I will do the Martini, bayonet and possibly groundwork.

Oh yes Buller is still trying to rescue D'Arcy in the background.
cheers
Richie
