hello
i purchased this figure already asembled some time ago at ebay germany.when i painted it and looked later at the pegaso site-to die an little bit checking it with mine- i found to my dismay that the chap which built it up made an mistake and did fix the legs of the lionpelt at the shoulders not tucked under the belt.
i tried to fix it but it would have made so much destruction to the paintwork so i left it.its not so noticeable but still it stings when i look at it.
thats the problem with stuff already built up.more it is hard to paint up because when you do it you leave some parts away untill smaller detail have covered.
if someone has some critics about iam open.i know its not top of the pop.but its an hobby and i like this figure.like the most of this line.
the bust after which this fellow is done stands at Louvre Paris.
cheers

Hi Markus:

I can understand your concern about how this figure painting has gone. And
you're right, when the figure is already put together, there can arise problems
that were not foreseen. I guess I would chalk that up to:

"We do learn by doing. We have to pay to learn".

But what you've done so far does have merit. For one thing with all that
flesh and all the designs on the shield, I would say this is NOT an easy
figure to do. I suggest you just keep at it, and paint a lot of figures.

But the main this, in my view, is to enjoy this, and I hope it continues to be
fun for you.

regards,

rick

Nice job. I can definitely see improvement. I like what you've done with the shield. If you can, post a bigger picture so we can get a better view.

And for anyone interested, I believe this is the bust Markus mentioned.

Commodus was a Roman emperor who took on the persona of Hercules (hence the outfit) and often fought as a gladiator in the arena.

Markus this is very nice looking figure and one I will look at purchasing, I have a interest in gladiators at the moment especially Pegaso ones.
I cant tell much from the images but it looks like you did a nice paint job on it and the shield looks very nicely detailed.

dear collegues
yes i suppose its an russian one (guess that was why i did get it so cheap_).in the meantime i have seen in usa that there are sold more such things.but would not go for them because the end is this.
Steve yes this figure is an joy to paint.even with my meagere skills it looks quite nice in real.so if one is an painter you have to kneel done so nice its then.
yes the bust is that of commodus.he thought he would been the son of Heracles and so he wore the lionpelt like Heracles when he killed the-cant think what the Lion was called as one of the seven deeds he had to fullfill.
Commodus its said clubbed with this balaclus or knobbed club he used at one day 200 adversaries in the arena.
the real ist that the arena had some higher lying walkways.from this he could easyly smack down the men on ground.those where mainly celtic prioners which where nearly starved and where blinded by the sunlight when the stumpled in the arena from the dark underlying cells.
so he had it easy.he fought as glaidator and this was an thing which the roamn nobilty dispised.
i struggle with the camera but its very difficult to get something decent.this because one has to use light from two directions to get adequate pics.i had such an facilty an small photobox but the lamps gave up and so i tossed them away.
thanks for any encouraging words.its an figure which is an must forany ancient freak i love it,even with the drawback of faulty assembly.
i think to get an from pegaso and so it more decent as soon i have increased my skintones.
in any way i spent some nice hours with it.thanks and best regards to all
