Zodiac, echoes of Old grumbler, you wouldn`t be him in another guise would you? Member since yesterday? maybe putting on a bit of an accent if you node what i meen!
Ha Ha! please only my joking:shifty:
That got to be him

To all those who have given me support & good comments towards this bust I'd like to say thanks guys I really appreciate it,

And to all those who are giving it bit of a roasting...Okay so he's not an exact likeness to the man, I accept that but I'm not a master sculptor and I've still got a lot to learn! Maybe I shouldn't have posted him up as Mr Edwards, so lets just say he's a Victorian Veteran of the Crimean war as the photo was used as a guide only and I'm not saying he's the bloke to a tee..sorry chaps but I'm not that good at this lark....Yet!
Yep! My mistake & I've learnt a lesson on this one, so I appreciate your comments too.

Also ( and I'm getting drawn in here again) I'm not afraid of anyone giving their view to what I have been sculpting or whatever conversion I've been working on, I'm happy to take honest constructive comments, good or bad, it all helps me to try & improve my sculpting with what ever I'm doing at the time, so I appreciate other modellers views very much.. but I have to admit I really *****hate it when a post has to turn into a slagging match!.... so Mr Zodiac or whatever your name is, you kicked this one off this time with your stupid comments to others who have taken the time to comment on this post, in my opinion mate your out of line!... Keep it constructive or just wind your neck in!..one or the other please!..If you want to go blabbing off at people do it on the Forum lounge not on other peoples post's, like mine okay!
Jim

Jim, you are doing fine and there is growth in this which ever way you will choose to take it. All my coments come with unconditional positive intent and regard.
It is your Major Edwards and please don't think that comments come from place " dont like it". Comes from "like it" and lets take it to next level - which you are perfectly capable of, so no appologies to anyone are necessary and "yet" is a key word.

( I will also disclose potential conflict of interest as I wanted to sculpt him for a long time now too...:cautious: )

I think it's a pretty damn good likeness personally yes the brow may be a bit heavy but in my experience occasionally just very occasionally I have seen a Sgt Major frown it's amazing I know but it does happen  Personally Jimbo it's light years ahead of anything I could sculpt and you call it what you damn well want mate let all the knockers roll out their own versions of it and we can decide who has the better version is that way..... Naturally it won't happen.
Steve

i like it very much, if the bust is frowning then i think it looks okay, if its to look like the picture, then a more relaxed expression is required. but overall very good,/badger

Hi Guys ,

As I thought Jimbo welcome's
` CONSTRUCTIVE " comments and as he has saisd he has learnt from this work .

It will be my peasure to see this tonight and compare it with the 1st version ......the 2nd version has bags of character and fine details .

Zodiac ,

I totally agree with Jims comments ..get your putty out and lets see what you can do .....................or perhaps you would reveal your true identity ?

Members post their works for others to constructively post and not go totally off post so STOP this .

i remember a judge at a modelling competition saying that his job at judging was to try and find as many faults as possible with competitors models. there was no mention of looking for the good points of competitors models. i feel a judge worth his metal would base his decision on both good and bad.

Its all do with so called "filters" - how we process information. Some people sort for good , some people sort for bad. Its both conscious and unconscious, depends on upbringing, family patterns, values and beliefs and much more.

Have you ever gone out with a friend and had a good time, whilst they complained how crap it was all night? Both had same experience, same information but perceived it differently.
Reality is that its neither good or bad, it just "was", we just make meaning best we can (or best way we know how).

Some people will be more aware and be able to notice when they are running those patterns and then consciously make different choices - it took me a while to learn this skill, as I also usually "sort for bad"

True Gaudin,
I had a mate that no matter what kind of night out we went on it was never good enough. His car was never good enough, his girlfriends were never good enough, his house was never good enough, his job was never good enough and tbh his life was never good enough.
I quickly came to the conclusion he was sucking the very life from me and always looked for the bad and could never see beyond that.
Dropped him like a stone and now he has no one as his negativity was so overwhelming.

Cant be a happy life though, existing in a world that. I would be very curious to know what his father was like.
There is a saying - "everyone f*** up their own happiness in their own unique way".

Could be true my friend
But I prefer the saying

"This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being of a warm positive force of nature instead of a feverishly clod of grievence complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy."

Is it not better for personal artistic development to have one person give constructive criticism than twenty thousand or more just blowing smoke?

Great work here Jim,
In my humble opinion it is a tiny step up from the first sculp but then I would be pleased to have the ability to sculpt half as good as either of these pieces.
I know from experience that it is much more difficult to sculpt a specific person and you have made a really great job on this score with this and your Hussar bust.
Thanks in advance for you (and other sculptors here) continuing to produce great pieces.
Cheers,
Keith
