79. Day, February 10, 2015

Today a little later than usual I came to paint - and the saber scabbard was made.

Those things existed in the 17th century, mainly from wood that was either covered with black leather or lacquered with black color.

As for the "better-off" among the Cossacks so could be a scabbard made of steel.

The fittings were either silver or Brass - sometimes gilded.

First, I have the scabbard painted black - and I used for that "scale Black", the color black was not installed.

Instead, these colors were used ...:

The security fitting at the bottom of the scabbard, the locket and the mounting rings I made with these colors ...:

So the result looks ...:

The "leather stuff" has remained unpainted, because there is a problem that I still tinkering.

More tomorrow.

80. Day, February 11, 2015

Today I painted the "leather stuff" on the saber scabbard, but with with acryls ...:

Why?

The saber hanger is not glued to the scabbard, in addition, the gold paper from which I made the belts, is absolutely soft and flexible - even the slightest attaching the facing brush these things would bend - or worse: Break the rings off the scabbard!

Therefore now thus acrylic colors - more carefully dabbed than painted. Much effort for a part, the later is simply lying on the floor ...:

Like this the scabbard willk lying there later ...:

And this brings us to another part.

More of it tomorrow ...

Careful when you prime that pistol, Martin, you don't want it to go off!

(Ein Pun auf englisch, doch läβt si net so leicht aufs deutsche übersetz’n!)

Prost!

82. Day, February 13, 2015

Last night I received some new pics by Markus - showing his progresses on the cossack musician...:

My todays work was the painting of the wooden parts of the pistol.

Fot this I used this colors...:

I have tried to paint a beautiful wood grain - and the ramrod like the original a little brighter and got his own "grain" ...:

Here in original seize...:

I agree with your observations, Martin, about the quality of Markus' work on the draping, on the folds in the garments, very realistic.

Your wood grain is coming along very nicely, too.

84. Day, February 17, 2015

I got new photos by Markus again last night. WOW! The Cossack already looks great ...:

The saber still, more detailed work on the musical instrument, and even customizing the face pressure to the wild dance of the other Cossacks fit - abd then it will be ready.

I myself have 'me today to another hardware made ...:

Are from last year, I had a beautiful reproduction of a rifle by Andy Cairns (AC Models)...:

The weapon corresponds to a historical model that was manufactured in 1620 and is now home to a museum ...:

The sprue - particularly the piston - is very tight, which is why I went there again "hot cut" - by means of a hot pin, which I have previously mounted on a soldering iron ...:

The gun comes with no break from the casting block ...:

Then it goes to the cleaning, washing and priming - until the little rifle is so ahead of me ...:

And now I have a problem: On guard for the trigger the small bridge is missing ...:

I have not the slightest idea how that part could be lost - when I went out for priming, it was still there - probably I have begun trimming after it and when spraying the primer it flew away ...

Sure, you could be the thing so let and hardly would notice later. But I knew what is broke there!

So I copied a bridge from doubled gold paper (it is about 1.1 millimeters long!) And attached the tiny part with superglue ...

A short primer spray from the socket ends the current day's work.

Now, the kobzar looks absolutely ace. May be thinner stings made with wire ( and less of them to make some space between them ) would make it more elegant, but its a matter of opinion.

If I was to suggest anything to add ( poor Marcus) to vignette is another character ( wait!) - a little mongrel dogie barking at the dancer :D It brings the composition to a classical count of 3 points of attention and may balance the whole thing.

As I say , just a thought.

Or maybe a third cossack standing with the musician, clapping his hands and singing. Not only does this give three focal points but also will give you some higher elevation elements... 1 crouched 2 seated 3 standing

Just a thought... sorry Marcus ;)

Colin

Well, I had similar thought but chose simpler version to spare Marcus.

How about a girl being not very impressed ?:D

85. Day, February 18, 2015

I have just finished with the painting of the wooden parts of the rifle. Again, there was these colors used ...:

I got the mixtures this time designed slightly differently, so that the rifle differs slightly in color from the pistol.

Once again I have used a lot of time and care to present a "natural" wood-grain ...:

Even this time I have the ramrod painted in a different color than the rest of the wood parts ...:
