Eyebrows painted (acrylics), mouth revised (acrylics), brightened teeth (acrylics again) and beard shadow painted (oils) - like this my little Cossack looks on the last day of the workshop in Bavaria...:

Then I was still occupied by the question of how to get the not quite dry head undamaged back to Bremen - he had to fly in the luggage compartment even in the trunk.

Markus had the solution:

The head is - freestanding - stuck with double-sided tape in a cardboard box ...

before ... and still wrapped with kitchen towel ....:

5. Day, October 13, 2014

The head has arrived to Bremen undamaged. It is now dry - and matt ...:

The error on the nose I've seen only when the image is magnified, I will still iron it out ...

Later that day I still went shopping and got myself the first oil colors of my life ...:

A good start Martin. Looking forwards to following your progress.
It's not cheap starting out with oils but they last a long time. Try to resist the urge of buying colours you think you might use rather what you will use..... believe me I know! :D

Roger.

Thanks Roger!!!

Day 6, October 17, 2014

Today I have once again invested two hours of work in the head - until I liked it!

Overall, the face was the overall impression a bit darker, emphasizes the facial features slightly sharper, the beard shadow a little lush - and besides, I've corrected teeth and nose ...:

Here the whole thing again in original size ...:

Well - for me my first oil painted head is finished. What do you think ...?

7. Day, October 20, 2014

As suggested by a friend I have donated the head a few final lights - on the forehead, the nose and the cheekbones.

The artificial light swallowed the effect unfortunately something at the original it is easier to see.

And in this state moves the head now in the cabinet until it is needed again ...:

My first head "in oils". I - all in all am quite happy with it ...

Thanks Andy an Daniel!!!

Well, I start today with the torso.

The piece is first drilled at the bottom ...

...then carefully washed...

...fastened with "UHU" with a toothpick on a cork ...

...and finally primed...:

And (like the head!) we can see with the dark primer, as well Markus has really modeled the character! As an example may serve the tiny cross wearing our Cossack's neck.

Markus has not modeled because "some" cross, but one that exactly matches the historical models that I had sent him before ...:

The next step is visible chest in the shirt.

The underpainting was done with acrylic ... again:

More I could not paint today, because I am suffering from a gastrointestinal thing.

Thanks Joe!!!

10. Day, October 23, 2014

Using oil paints ...

The chest with light and shade provided. The upper left corner is not looks so very great, because I have vigorously painted over the edge of his shirt.

But that will be corrected when the shirt is painted ...
